So now i've started wearing a mask again and always in Pharmacy where the staff have always done and also in the GP surgery when I've gone to get results or ask about a health issue?

LisaAN Mon 04-Jul-22 13:20:53

I have been wearing FFP3 masks until very recently. At the end of July I will be travelling abroad to see my parents (87 and 90) and will start wearing a face cover again about ten days prior to departure to protect them, I will also have a PCR test.

Yes if going into a building or if there are others nearby.
Never stopped. COVID numbers are growing and very high again.
GP surgery not great and want us to book in using a screen device. I refuse to use it as it means touching a screen that many many sick patients have touched.
I don’t touch anything with my hands when out - doors etc. I use my skirt etc

I don't wear one unless I absolutely have to - eg GP, hospital - and I really don't think it makes any difference anyway. I caught Covid when masks were mandatory despite being very careful because I am 55 and overweight and my husband has diabetes.

I read at the weekend that we are being urged tonearm them again

I wore one tontje supermarket today as I have been doing all along. There are usually a few of us, but I didnt see any at all today.

No. I will have to find one though for a visit to a relative in a care home but guess that's a reasonable ask. Apparently the care home will also issue gloves and an apron, but I'm wondering if all of that will make the visit to someone with dementia more difficult for them to remember/recognise us.

Not yet but I think I shall. Johnson wants us to forget Covid and just live with it but it can still kill you or give you long Covid.

I’m with those of you who haven’t stopped wearing one. We all have our own reasons to wear or otherwise…for me being asthmatic and 70 years old is good enough reason to stick with it. My only nod to ‘no more restrictions’ has been that during the warmer weather I’ve haven’t worn one outdoors, but otherwise I wear one…yes it’s a pain, but I’ll do all I can to avoid this virus for as long as I can. I do a couple of school runs weekly and have a large family including nine school and college aged grandchildren, so I’ll be masking and hand washing for the foreseeable future …and yes I’m fully vaccinated, but the last one was eight months ago. Covid scares me, as does seasonal flu. So I do what I can to protect myself and my family as well as anyone else I encounter. Personal choice at the end of the day of course ?

Kate1949,same here,I've had positive covid test for 1st time,I too had become complacent.

Theoddbird Mon 04-Jul-22 12:23:09

Yes I did when shopping the other day. I noticed a lot of people wearing them in Supermarket. Saw people in street wearing them as well.

I am still wearing mine in crowded areas as I’m immunosuppressed. Four weeks ago despite only seeing 3 people during the week and that was for outside dining I got Covid was given anti virals after 4 days (and17 phone calls!) and asked to test for a week afterwards. After 6 days I tested Neg and for 7 days after that. Started living life on the 7th day on the 8th tested positive again! An 8 day break! This latest strain must be really infectious! I am back to wearing a mask but can’t let it tie me to the house. It was unpleasant but not unbearable.

We went to my husband's cousin's memorial service two days ago. He died of complications from Covid. He was fully vaccinated and boosted. He was 79 years old.
He felt a little sick a few days before and then felt better but was found dead in his parked car. He wasn't wearing a mask when he was around people. People are foolishly behaving as though the pandemic is over.

growstuff seek counselling? I think you need counselling if you find mask wearing a normal thing to do

I don't think it's "normal", but it's hardly a great imposition. It's "normal" to protect oneself when infection is rife, just as it would be "normal" to wear a dust mask when sanding - maybe you panic about that too.

It’s been normal in eastern countries for years, even before covid. And not just because of pollution. People have long worn a mask eg on public transport if they have a cold so they don’t infect the people around them. I had hoped that this general awareness of being responsible not just for our own health but the health of those around us would become the norm here, too, but, alas it hasn't. I suppose it was sill of me to hope that it would although I think young people were much happier to accept mask wearing than older people.

My mask goes on before I leave home and comes off after I get off the bus for my walk home. I don't wear it during my exercise or craft group. We have all been triple vaccinated and in airy rooms. It's personal choice and this is mine. During the winter my disposal mask keeps my face warm and absorbs sweat if I have a hot flush . Have always washed my hands once home it was instilled into me as a child so it's part of my routine.

Covid numbers are rising again. But it's up to people to do what they feel comfortable doing.

Thank you Farzanah

I see Brittany Ferries have just said masks obligatory again.
I read that letter from the CEO too JaxJacky. A bit of an inconvenience, but not the end of the world. I am happy to wear a mask next month in order to protect the BF staff. Can't have the restaurant on board closing!

Farzanah Sun 03-Jul-22 19:55:39

Katie I hope you and your husband feel better soon.
There will always be some who are ignorant or prefer to disregard science and evidence and live in the belief that it will never happen to them, don’t care about protecting others, or are simply risk takers.
I have given up trying to bother. Hey ho.

Biscuitmuncher Sun 03-Jul-22 19:44:45

I'm not the one being silly

Biscuitmuncher Sun 03-Jul-22 19:35:26

growstuff I don't think sanding and an infection I might get and might not even know I've got are a very good comparison.

Ok growstuff whatever you say.
I thought I’d made my point that I hope we don’t go back to the mandatory mask wearing, although I will repeat, of course I realise some folk will prefer to continue wearing theirs.
Let’s let it drop now shall we?

Aha! Dropping a discussion is the last resort of people who don't have a point. hmm

Yep! Happy to do so. I was originally responding to the op with a factual statement. I just don't understand why people mindlessly repeat mantras such as "we've got to get back to normal", which is nonsense. Ignoring something doesn't make it go away. The amount of gaslighting aimed at people who wear masks is somewhat irritating. It's weird really because nobody would criticise people for using contraception so they don't get pregnant or looking both ways before they cross the road.

I didn't wind back to previous posts. I only read your reply. Sorry, but life's too short and all that. I haven't written anything about mandatory mask wearing. I just don't understand why people try so hard to ridicule people for being "over cautious" (in their opinion).

Of course it's not normal but having a pandemic isn't normal.
