Worried about coeliac disease

My DS is 41. He was feeling unwell, went to GP, sent for bloodtest. His coeliac screen (TGA) result was 870 U/ml. I gather that anything over 10 is positive for Coeliac disease. This was on 1 July, and when the GP surgery finally referred him to the hospital, the appointment he was given is on 31 October. Is it safe to wait that long to be investigated?

Hi Byeck, if I was unwell and had to wait all that time with those high levels I would definitely be coming off gluten for a while to feel better. He’ll go to the hospital and they will book him in for an endoscopy.
They told me to come off gluten and go back on two weeks before my endoscopy.

No you must carry on having gluten right up to his hospital appointment otherwise he will get a negative result. Suggest he takes vitamin tablets in the meantime as his body is not processing the nutrients this might help to give him more energy. Not much he can do about any unpleasant Bowel movements but please gluten needs to be taken at least 6 six weeks before the hospital visit.

The doctor will definitely tell him to stay on gluten it’s the best thing to do. It’s ten years since I’ve been diagnosed. Now living with osteoperosis due to being ill with coeliac disease and not absorbing nutrients so the quicker he can get diagnosed the better. x

Follow-up to this thread, my DS now diagnosed with coeliac disease. Two health professionals have indicated that this condition is becoming prevalent following a Covid infection or jab/booster. Both of which my son has had. There are scientific papers already out there talking about this. We are DEFINITELY not anti-vaxxers or conspiracy theorists. But this does seem a possibility in my son's case, as he began being unwell immediately after his booster. Does anyone else have any information of experience of this happening.
