Ps I hope your DGD gets better soon.
DGD's Dad had something similar when he was young, just a virus apparently and he was still well, just itchy.

Diagnosis is just a virus, not measles or German measles or Covid.

That's what the hospital said about DGD's rash (years ago, she was a baby so hadn't had the MMR vaccine) but she was very poorly with it. Oddly enough, her sibling had just had a reaction to the pre-school booster.

My 5 year old DGS had an awful rash in July. The GP was puzzled by it as it looked like measles to him but with no other symptoms. GS was otherwise completely well. He suggested a covid test and it was positive! Measles is almost unheard of in children who have had the vaccination.

Ever has tested negative for Covid. Will test again tomorrow though… they are at Gp now so hopefully get a diagnosis. It does mean I have the brother though. I have had German measles as a child so hoping I’m immune

It does look from the picture like a rubella rash but if they have had the MMR vaccines it could be a rash from a virus, perhaps Covid as someone suggested.

It's worth testing for Covid if the family have colds and the child has a rash. My youngest DGS had a rash with it a couple of years ago when he was 12. It's also possible that the child has an undiagnosed allergy.
If children have had the MMR vaccination, they shouldn't have caught measles or rubella.

There is a rash associated with children who have Covid

You all have colds maybe an LFT might be in order you could all haveCovid.

Yes, I’m hanging my head in shame.

Germanshepherdsmum

Isn’t shingles connected to German measles?

You can get chickenpox from contact with Shingles but not German Measles (Rubella)
Different virus

Germanshepherdsmum Thu 08-Sept-22 09:26:00

Thanks Yammy, yes of course chickenpox.

Yammy Thu 08-Sept-22 09:23:19

Shingles are connected to Chickenpox it is linked to herpes as well. Though I would be wary of looking after someone who might have measles they are usually to start with odd pustules on different parts of the body. I caught them when teaching and was covered eventually and very ill.
That rash looks like German measles to me, not medical highly contagious and very dangerous to pregnant women. It spreads very rapidly.

Depends if you have had them or are likely to be pregnant!

Germanshepherdsmum Thu 08-Sept-22 09:06:56

I wouldn’t.

Due to collect my grandson for the day… his sister has woken up with a rash.( We all have cold symptoms) To me it looks as if it’s German measles or measles… should I still collect her brother?
