Thyroid tests normal, not underweight, rather the opposite. Any ideas?

Thnk you for the info,I'll order some foot warmers and see if they help

Sallywally1 Sun 18-Sept-22 13:20:10

I’ve got one of those heated throws which I got from Lakeland. They are very comforting. Rather dreading winter though!

Jaxjacky Sun 18-Sept-22 12:25:59

Paddyann a lot of people with circulation problems take blood thinners to mitigate clots, they make you feel the cold.
When I’m out I tuck one of these into my gloves, they have them for feet, so one in my shoes/boots too, they’re very good. I bought them in a camping shop.

Thanks Chestnut. I think I might get one. I love hot water bottles, but they gradually cool and then it requires another kettle of hot water to fill them, so perhaps heat pat would therefore equal it out, - if you see what I mean. smile

KIm19 I am the opposite, if my feet are warm all is well and I always wear tights, except in heatwaves, and often wool socks as well.

I am recovering from COVID and wearing thick long longjohns and thick fluffy bedsocks under my track suit.

If my head is covered body is happy. Without hat (wooly in winter, lightweight in summer) my thermostat goes wonky and I soon become cold. So glad I recognised this peculiarity early as it's saved me much unnecessary discomfort.

*Whitewavemark 2* my OH had a series of heart attacks 11 years ago and has drugs every day .I had no idea that was why he feels the cold.He had varicose veins removed about 15 years ago and I thought that might account for his legs always being like blocks of ice.Has your OH's doctor said being cold is normal under these circumstances or should I ask him(nag) to get a GP appointment?

No we haven’t spoken to GP but have read it somewhere - ages ago so can’t point you in right direction. But I bet if you google it you will find the information.

Heart issues mean that you can’t deal with extremes.

We were in Cordoba a couple or So years ago and it was searing. We spent a long lunch in a shaded court yard, which was fine but when we decided to walk across the bridge DH became very very pale and was feeling not at all well, so we retreated to the air conditioned coach and he bucked up.

The same with cold, you really have to be very careful and try to keep an ambient temperature of 21c which means your body will be under no extra stress.

I think that the current situation well certainly mean that people are going to die prematurely.

We used to have a neighbour who was always cold, and I believe that she had low blood pressure.

crazyH Sat 17-Sept-22 23:32:09

I feel the cold. My heating is on, as we speak.

Do those electric heat pads use much electricity, does anyone know, ?
They sound great.

I'm pretty sure they don't use much at all, they are rather like small electric blankets which don't use much either. I like them better than a hot water bottle as they are bigger, flatter, and stay at the same temperature.

If we want a Drs appointment it is always best to go to the surgery about 7.30 in the morning to join a queue, when I go I take a hot water bottle and shove it inside my coat to stay warm while waiting.

AreWeThereYet Sat 17-Sept-22 20:32:39

I'm not always cold but for the last few years do feel it more than previously. MrA (affectionately) calls me a snake; of I am in the sun I am warm, but as soon as the sun disappears I freeze. When we went out for coffee this morning I had quite a thick jacket on and MrA had shorts and shirt. When we were sitting in the sun I started to heat up and took my jacket off. As soon as the sun disappeared I put it back on. I think it's a symptom of thyroid problems so I should really see the doctor I suppose.

Another one with Reynauds. Fingers on my left hand numb as I type.

Good wishes to all who are unwell and hope you feel better soon.

I am the exact opposite to everyone on this thread, I don't feel the cold and hate the heat. I'm still wearing summer clothing and sandals, no duvets on the bed yet. We have no central heating and rely on our pellet burner if it gets too cold. Rarely on before November. I have to remember to put it on if we have guests so they don't sit there shivering grin

I'm the same, although I have to admit that if my feet get cold, I just can't sleep, so as long as my feet are cozy, I'm fine.

CraftyGranny Sat 17-Sept-22 19:57:04

I have been freezing all day, but put it down to just returning from Athens on Thursday, where it was very very hot. I have my clothes on plus a vest plus a fleecy dressing gown. I don't feel ill though, just really cold.

I hope all the poorly ones feel better very soon.

I’m like your DH Whitewavemark2; I have severe heart failure and get cold very easily (I am intolerant to the heat too??), so I commiserate with him.
It’s difficult to get warm once I get cold so I have a heated throw, woolly socks, merino wool jumpers etc to layer up with.
I lit the wood burner this afternoon so blissfully warm at the moment!

BlueBelle Sat 17-Sept-22 18:40:20

Thanks for starting this thread sallywally it’s good to know there are others I always feel a bit of a freak when friends are warm and I m filling my hot water bottle
I clearly remember my mum taking me to the doctor when I was about 8 because I still liked my hottie bottle even in the summer Mum thought I d got bad circulation or something
The doctor very sensibly said if she wants one let her have one and I have ever since ???

Jaxjacky Sat 17-Sept-22 18:40:04

I’ve got Raynauds, I’ve had it since my early 20’s so come this time of hear my hands and feet are cold. 25 is my ambient temperature outside.
Thermal gloves, especially the silver ones, hot hands and the same for feet are used when out and it’s really cold.

Whitewavemark2 Sat 17-Sept-22 18:38:00

Yes I ate when I had covid, but I couldn’t stop shaking from cold, so tottered out of bed and put in the electric blanket, when the temperature outside was in the high 20s.

Flu followed it after a couple of weeks and I couldn’t touch a thing to eat. I had a temperature but not so shivery

Blimey a hat!, seems excessive but I suppose you are nearer the arctic circle?, today I’ve worn a sweater today but only a cotton and wool mix, nothing very substantial, and even then felt a tad hot.

Barmeyoldbat Sat 17-Sept-22 18:36:01

Always feel the cold, I have been having a hot water bottle for weeks. Interesting when I went in for an operation they said I had a low temperature and gave me a heated blanket to lie on.

ginny Sat 17-Sept-22 18:29:07

I am more often cold than hot.
When people are taking off jumpers and cardigans I am still in mine.
Like some others I rarely perspire let alone sweat.
I wear several layers in the winter and have several crochet blankets that I use at home in the winter so that DH is comfortable and not having to turn up the heating too far.

Baggs Sat 17-Sept-22 18:27:16

I've worn a hat indoors and out all day today.

The biggest thing I noticed when I had covid was that I was much hungrier than usual. "Feed a cold" they used to say.

Hope those currently infected feel better soon.
