Prescription drug over dispensed

I would ring your doctor's surgery and put the question to them.

The best thing to do is check the bag before you go out of the shop. If there is anything there you do not want hand it back, and if they pull off the sticky label with your name on, it can go back on the shelves. Otherwise if they are regularly ordered, you can just miss it off your repeat next time. They won't take anything back once it's left the shop.

Whoever dispensed the drugs need to be informed as a mistake of any kind has to be recorded. No one will get into trouble over it because mistakes are made and it’s important that measures are put in place to stop it again. There’s definitely something going wrong as controlled drugs are kept in a safe and have to be signed out. Just think, it may have ended up in the bag of someone that isn’t on the drug. My boss told me that he would worry more if a mistakes book was empty because it meant that people were hiding mistakes. And we always told our patients to query everything, no matter how insignificant it might seem.

It has happened to me, the pharmacy weren’t interested so I just reduced my next order accordingly.

If you email them and tell them what has happened then they will know what the shortfall is.

If, as you say, they are a controlled drug, then please phone the pharmacy and let them know. Then follow their advice as to returning or keeping them.

Their records will not tally at stocktake and it will cause them massive problems.

Clearly the mistake should not have happened, but the best thing to do is to let them know as soon as you can.

I have tried phoning Boots on two or three occasions, but nobody ever answers the phone, ever.

But, I will phone my surgery, tell them what has happened, and also mention it to the pharmacy next time we are in town.

Probably just keep them but let the pharmacy and GP Practice know as controlled drugs are usually locked away and specially recorded.
DH gets his delivered and last month the driver dropped off the bag, DH didn't check it and when I got home it was for another person altogether. Was worried this lady was waiting on them so took them back, had to wait in 30 queue to hand it in and no-one said sorry or thank you. Next day another 45 minutes to collect the correct drugs.

Ring the surgery or go via their website and state you have received a different quantity of the medication to the quantity you have ordered. Say you are quite happy to keep the extra medication and if this is alright could this conversation/message be placed on record for future information.

Definitely inform the chemist as controlled drugs have to be accounted for very carefully.

Well I went back to Boots Pharmacy, after lunch, and told them what had happened.
I was asked to bring the excess drugs back to them.

No apologies at all, and I still don't know if they will be binned.
