Would you like to take part in a study on intermittent fasting, where you eat only during a 10-hour window?
It's being run by Tim Spector of Zoe, and you can find out about it here.

Join The Big IF Study and find out if intermittent fasting works for you and contribute to scientific research.
It's free and takes only 2-mins a day. Download the ZOE Health Study app now health-study.joinzoe.com/intermittent-fasting

I had an email from Zoe today.
I have joined the study.

I have the Zoe app on my mobile So they hold some info on me from the Zoe covid study.

I have done 8/16 fasting without any problems, found it helpful when losing weight over lockdown.

I have done that for years .

I do it anyway, last food before 8pm, next food after 11am the following day.

I experimented with 14/10 then moved onto 16/8 for 3 days
per week , that was really effective but wouldn't recommend it long term. Over 3 months I lost 3/4 stone and its stayed off.
I still eat 14/10 as I found I have loads more energy . I initially
gave it a go to help my arthritus which it has so I won't be
changing back.

I very rarely eat after 6 and then the next day about 11.30/ 12.

I wondered about signing up to this study but cannot manage without a cup of tea in the mornings- ( I tend to have low blood pressure if dehydrated on waking) so would struggle with a 10 hour sustenance per day window. I know water is allowed at any time, but 10 hours is too tight for our household. I might follow along with a 12/12 hours set up as this would allow time for a working day and getting home to cook tea but stop any later snacking. Its kind of what we already do any way.

It is how we used to eat. Breakfast at 7 and last meal at 5. It is how I eat and have done for a very long time. Good health is not only fasting, it is also what is eaten. Fasting will not overcome a rubbish intake

I would, but I'm far too greedy.

Zoe has already done a lot of study of what is eaten, and is now looking at the effects of when food is eaten.
halfpint1 has told us it's been helpful to her/him and I hope this study of a large number of people will give useful information.

Breakfast after 8.00am and Supper around 6.00pm. Plus I use the 5:2 diet to keep my weight steady.

It’s awkward for me because I am not a morning Easter and I work between 2 and 8 pm..

I just wanted to say thank you to FarNorth. I signed on for this and find the routine really suits me (once I discovered white tea in the morning). I don't feel hungry, sleep really well and generally feel good. As a bonus, although I don't think weight loss is the point of the study, I am 8lbs lighter 🙂. If necessary I shall switch to a 12 hour clean fast over the Christmas period but intend to continue with 14 hours next year.

I’ve been doing it for 3 weeks now. I have a friend that, like me, has been on theneverendingdiet since we were both in our late teens and she told me she had lost two stones doing it. I find, with most diets, if I eat badly one day I just give up and binge for a while. And, since retiring I’d started late night snacking. But I find that, with this, if I don’t do it for a day ( eg I was travelling fir a day last week and ended up snacking) I just go back to it the next day. I was surprised to read a Caitlin Moran article in yesterdays Times where she criticised it ( I can’t ever recall disagreeing with her about anything) but she did point out that some people might start trying to push it out further: longer fasting, less food etc and, as I’m a bit obsessive myself I can see that happening. I have started drinking black coffee whilst fasting: one of the ZOE App interviews did say that coffee is very good whilst fasting. And it must be difficult for people that are still working or have young children. I try to avoid the kitchen and sleep as much as possible whilst fasting. I never used to eat till midday anyway when I worked but did like my tea and coffee in the morning. I’ve joined a Facebook support group, too. And have put my scales away because I was weighing myself too much and it’s more about lifestyle and health than losing weight. Mentally, once I reach fasting time I find it very empowering as I don’t even have to think about eating or not eating. I do lots of relaxation tapes etc whilst fasting as well. And I’m taking prebiotics and probiotics, too. I certainly feel quite good doing it. I make sure I’ve got something really nice to break my fast with so I can look forward to it and don’t have to spend time preparing it.
