Trouble climbing stair this helped

I noticed my right leg was considerably weaker than my left so making climbing the stairs in my house difficult.
Did couple of things and now back to normal thankfully.
1) I stopped using the downstairs loo and made myself use the stairs.
2) I take magnesium now.
3) This I believe has made the hugest impact. Each morning I hold onto a worktop and stretch each leg by bending one and stretching the other straight out the back to feel the stretch in your calf and hold for about 20 secs. Then release and bend the other leg till you feel the stretch in your shin and again hold for about 20secs. Repeat this once more for each leg. The difference this has made is amazing.

I have bumped this because I think a few people could benefit.

I think all these are good ideas.A while ago I told a friend we were thinking of downsizing and maybe getting a bungalow. She said oh no you will get “bungalow legs” a weakness in the legs which apparently is a common condition for people who don’t regularly climb stairs or do leg strengthening exercises.
Don’t know much about magnesium- how does that help.

1summer ....Magnesium benefits:

Recent work has shown thatgreater dietary intakes of magnesium are associated with higher muscle strength in older adults; therefore, magnesium concentrations in skeletal muscle could be crucial to maintaining skeletal muscle health in middle and older age

I have very bad muscle weakness as a result either of cancer or of chemo (had lots of tests and they still don’t know. Going upstairs is terrible (no choice though I live on first floor - 16 steps). I do exercises but maybe I should give magnesium a try
Pharmacy ? Holland and Barrett ?

Use stairs at every opportunity, they are mobility saviours!
I worked in rehab and trust me the difference in people who had stairs in the home compared to those who didn’t was remarkable.

I agree about the Bungalow legs not only weak going up stairs but mine are unsightly, fat pads above my knees....ugh horrible. I don't really like bungalows although can see some advantages now we're in our 70's.

This happened to my mum when she moved into a flat, she has no strength in her legs at all now. Re Magnesium, I take Osteocare liquid now which contains Calcium, Vit D, Magnesium & Zinc, it tastes ok and I have noticed a difference.

I have found that magnesium helps to prevent cramp too.
I don't have stairs, but do leg exercises regularly.
