Thanks Fanny,
Blusters in corner if my mouth
WORD ASSOCIATION - 9th May 2026
Hello 👋
Here is the new thread!
Thank you to regular and irregular posters all.
Especially those such as Silverling and Charleygirl who have provided so much advise and support. (There are lots of other lovely posters, but too many to list).
As well as advice, there is also much wisdom and kindness.
I will link to the first and second threads below.
Wherever you are on your replacement journey, you are most welcome to join us here
Thanks Fanny,
Fanny thank you for that, I am amazed that this thread has lasted so long.
This is a day ladies when you forget about exercise but do not take too much alcohol because it would be difficult to get to A&E and heaven knows how long you would spend on a trolley there. Much better to remain safe in your own home.
Have a happy Christmas everybody.
Happy Christmas Charlie, Silverlining and all Hipsters old and new.
Thank you for your support and friendship this year. You are all ⭐️s

At least you can make the odd sandwich for yourself to keep the pangs of hunger at bay.
The more I read on other threads today about tomorrow the more thankful I am that I am catering for numero uno so I can dine when I like and have what I like.
At least with two dishes in his repertoire, he will not starve.
I was married to a fellow who cooked breakfast once (for himself) with the gas on high so fat from sausages etc. flew over the wall and floor tiles. Every utensil was used, also far too many plates and guess who had to clear it up?
Have a lovely Christmas everybody, take the day slowly and if you end up with a boiled egg, so be it, it is food.
charleygirl5 that made me chuckle, he does indeed know the location of the kitchen, he has two dishes in his repertoire and firmly believes he is Raymond Blanc!. Should be interesting, I envisage eating at 6pm instead of 2pm!
Hello everyone, just popping in to thank everyone for their support and advice.
I am now 6 weeks post op and making good progress. My surgeon said I can now resume driving and sleep on my non operated side if I wish. However, I am actually choosing to sleep mainly on my back....I can't believe I'm actually saying this as I hated it early on!!
He said it is still early days but providing I use my common sense it can only get better.
If you are struggling with your hip/knee and are waiting for your op I send my best wishes. I am not pain free yet but that dreadful groin pain has gone. I've got other aches and pains but things are settling down and for me my THR has been nothing short of a miracle.
Take care..
Merry Christmas and a Happy and Healthy 2023. xx
I
First of all, thank you for your support and advice. I feel like I am popping in on friends!
We are going to daughters on Christmas Day. Fortunately she lives 15 minutes away. We moved cities to be near her, her husband and our 2 delightful grandchildren. I feel very frustrated that I can’t do more grandma stuff with them at the minute.
Thanks Silverlining48 for advice about Night Nurse and Phenergan.
SusieB50 I have had both cataracts done about 3 years ago. It still amazes me that I can see so well, and such a straightforward simple painless procedure. I was reading all the number plates on the way home (as a passenger of course!)
I haven’t had a bath this year, much prefer it to a shower but hopefully may be able to in the future.
I wish you all a good Christmas and a Happy New Year.
OMG Dizza better you than me! Still, if it is a total disaster you can always have boiled eggs on toast but if you are telling him exactly what to do and how to do it, everything should be fine.
Does he know where the kitchen is?!
PS well done on the bath, quite an achievement!
Thanks silverlining I’m doing okay thank you, sore at the incision site and not sleeping great but am moving and taking each day at a time. Our sons have arrived for Christmas, so now just to have try to navigate DH through cooking xmas dinner for the first time in 40 years! Wish me luck and a merry Christmas to you and the other hipsters who have been so great on the thread.
SusieB50 that's music to my ears. I'm hesitant about cataract surgery and seem to hear such worrying outcomes. I'll put it off as long as possible but will probably have to bite the bullet soon.
* silverlining* I haven’t chanced a bath yet also 8 months post op , I live on my own and would hate to get stuck ! I may try over Christmas when DD and family are staying. Last Monday I had my second cataract operation and it’s amazing ! So much better than the first 5 years ago - I could see perfectly the next day. It has given me so much more confidence walking on the pavements without a stick . No exercise classes this week though because of eye op and my-non operated hip is very painful Ho hum 🙄!
Susytish I use pfenerghan fairly regularly, it works fir me. 10 mg. good luck.
Susytish sorry to hear you are struggling. Have you tried something to help you sleep if only to catch up. A friend finds night nurse very effective and pfenerghan can be bought over the counter.
Are you and your husbsnd on your own or with family over Christmas? Not long to wait now fir your surgery.
Dizza hope you are feeling ok now, the first week or two can be a bit difficult at times. You will be feeling so much better very soon. Sending Best wishes.
I am 8 months post hip surgery and have had to have showers since, instead if my preferred bath. Delighted to report I have just had a bath and managed the process entirely on my own, remaining in one piece feeling much more confident.
When I first posted tentatively about hip ops I didnt expect this to have still been going strong nearly a year later. Thanks to all who have contributed their valued experience and advice, It not only helped me, but many others too.
Wishing you all, whether knees or hips, a very happy christmas and a healthy and fit new year.
Great to hear Visgirl and so encouraging for those on the way to this life changing surgery. Happy Christmas to you too 🤶
It's now 1 year since my TKR and 4 months since my THR.
I'm doing good.. But I want to Thank each and every "Hipster" for the support and advice. This link has been so helpful.
Merry Christmas everyone and I hope you all continue to improve and get those joints back in action.
♥️♥️
I personally would stop exercising until I could get the pain under control. I also would keep that leg elevated and if drugs are not helping with pain relief, maybe change packs of ice with eg a hot water bottle.
Sorry to hear about your husband, you have a lot on your plate.
Have you worked out how you are going to cope for a couple of months post surgery? Simple things like changing bedding, cleaning the house, shopping and cooking at least one meal a day for the pair of you. At least the date is in sight.
Susy, I’ll get back to you x
Susy I’m so sorry to hear about your husband. You have an awful lot on your plate
Sorry to hear you're in such discomfort. I agree re Tramadol. Really didn't like it. After my ops I only took paracetamol and found it helped a lot. Different meds suit different people of course.
Still, February isn't too far off - the op is in sight and you'll have spring to recover and Summer to enjoy
I am now having a lot of pain in my knee/hip. I had been doing the exercises on Versus Arthritis site, but even they are painful. I have been taking Ibuprofen, or Cocodamol, or Paracetemol. GP prescribed Tramadol, which I took twice and made me feel ill so didn’t take any more. Not able to get comfy in bed so not sleeping well.
Can you ladies give me any advice?
My husband has cancer, and is on chemo more or less permanently, so feeling a bit stressed, which presumably doesn’t help the arthritis!
I have 9 Feb 2023 for knee replacement.
Sorry, that should have read left hip done last Monday, obviously still groggy!!!!
