Hello đź‘‹
Here is the new thread!
Thank you to regular and irregular posters all.
Especially those such as Silverling and Charleygirl who have provided so much advise and support. (There are lots of other lovely posters, but too many to list).
As well as advice, there is also much wisdom and kindness.
I will link to the first and second threads below.
Wherever you are on your replacement journey, you are most welcome to join us here
Sometimes three posts in a row gets into Active but we slip down fast and then we are gone!
And a Coronavirus thread is missing altogether off Active.
There is a Style and Beauty thread which is further down out of time sync. The rest are in the correct time order.
This post is now appearing on Active at about post 9.
Better than nothing I suppose.

I have said this before but it’s worth repeating, we can self refer to physiotherapy or if available hydrotherapy,
Our local Nhs hospital has a hydrotherapy pool, I got an appointment very quickly and found it helpful.
I think it is worth repeating.
Not sure if it would be the same all over the country. Will take a look around here sometime.
I congratulate you on your efforts to get the thread on Active.
Active is an odd place.
At least you should feature on Last Day.
3 posts and nothing!
Last try
One last go ...
Nope, not even at the bottom of active! Why oh why?
Hello Susie yes 18 months have flown by.
Nothing changed with Active posts but we carry on.
Close to iteration number 4.
I’m glad people are finding this thread despite it constantly disappearing from the Active page. I found it really supportive during my recovery from THR 18 months ago . I still go to gentle water exercises and will go back to the gym as the weather declines. I’m hoping to put off my other hip surgery as long as possible. Although it was a great success it took a long time to get back to full recovery. But perhaps I’m fitter now as I had done little activity prior to my first op -awful undiagnosed pain , lockdown and widowhood all didn’t help!
Hello, Two weeks tomorrow since my hip op’.
This morning I had my clips out . I also saw the Physio who seemed very pleased with me. He gave me extra exercises to add to the original ones and said to take regular walks.
Just one crutch or stick outside now and can manage indoors without
Looking forward to going up and down stairs normally so will practice that.
All in all I am very happy with my progress.
Hope others are progressing and feeling better.
I wish you all a good night? Sweet dreams zzzzz
What a shame it’s always so hard to get posts on the active list,

I agree knees are worse than hip in general.
I had knee replacements 10 years ago with six months between each. Getting that knee bend back was not pleasant.
This hip seems much easier. The most difficult thing is getting into bed . I do have a loop to help and gradually not having to drag my operated leg so much.
Cygnet Don’t forget a new knee is more complicated operation which takes a bit longer to recover from.
Sounds like you are doing well, but don’t overdo things
Yes my physio said I coukd sleep on my operated side, but it wasn’t comfortable so slept on the other side supporting my new hip with pillows, which I still use. Not sure why, habit I suppose.
Thanks silverlining48. I’m being sensible I hope. I always stop exercising if I think I’ve done enough. I think my physio forgets how old I am and has given me some fairly strenuous exercises to do. I’m massaging three times a day and it hurts. Yesterday I had a good cry but otherwise I’m fine. It’s just frustrating not to be able to do things.
We have a few fancy walking sticks and I was using one of those for the last week. I used it when we went out last week, looks nicer than the crutch and was needed for when I stood up. It’s amazing how my leg feels just fine till I put my weight on it. Takes a little while to move off from 1st gear but then I’m walking just fine.
I’ve also been sleeping on my left side with pillow for support and it’s fine. It was so good to get off my backside. My physio said to sleep on my op side but I couldn’t possibly do that as it’s too painful.
Evening all knee and hipsters, it’s a week today since my TKR
and I’m so glad I can look forward to improving slowly. I had a better day today, and thankfully slept for a few hours last night. Still feeling quite sick- I guess the after effects of the anaesthetics. My dressing seems to be tightening up, so it’s difficult to bend for the exercises.
Hope all who’ve had recent ops are doing well. Everyone seems to vary quite a lot.
You are doing well night sky.
6 weeks gone already, well on your way to complete recovery,
(Though still take care),
I already had a pair of hardly used black patent crutches which I was hoping to use post hip but was given two metal sticks instead.
I realised they were easier than crutches so just used the sticks, crutches put away must kn case there’s another time.
Hi ginny… you are doing well. I’m 6 weeks today but I was using a walker for the first week. Walker upstairs and crutches/crutch downstairs. Seems a long time ago now. I stick to walking for 10 minutes a few times a day as I’m still getting a lot of pain. Swelling has all gone. Up and down the stairs several times a day. I’ve walked unaided for the last two weeks but my leg hurts horribly if I overdo it. I’m still not ready to hit the shops but did go to a nice restaurant with family last week. The limp has gone, I think.
Susytish….I hope you’re doing well. Haven’t heard from you for a while.
Hi, very pleased with myself this morning. Have been pottering around the house without crutches. Making sure I stay close to things I could hold on to. I feel a bit like a toddler learning to walk.
Hope you all have a good day.
grannysyb you are so fortunate you can go and stay with your daughter for 2 weeks. Every hospital is different but I was on crutches for 2 weeks and I live on my own. My mantra was I could cope provided I could put both feet on the floor.
You will enjoy Christmas, hopefully pain free but it is too soon for you to be chief cook on that day!
We got to no.1
