My mother was brought up to not waste food or throw it away and there was quite often leftover food hanging around. She didn't put things in the fridge either and so a leftover piece of pie or sandwich was left on the side in the kitchen. I think that you're best not to worry too much. My mum lived until she was 96 and didn't die of food poisoning smile

My mums 80 and we spent a lovely Christmas just with her and my partner, we went out to her favourite restaurant. My concern is that she always was a great cook and this year did sausage rolls with shortcrust pastry and mince pies with puff pastry. Both were lovely by the way. She also told me on the phone last night that she put the unopened Christmas pudding in the freezer as it’s dated 2024. She also has the habit of peeling off use by dates so I don’t see them (this was on a packet of breaded prawns). I also threw away a year old out of date tub of cream cheese that had gone green! Should I be concerned or just put it down to memory lapses? She lives on her own, still drives and I think does really well. Thanks to everyone for your thoughts. X
