Post viral fatigue

After having viral gastroenteritis, I now have post viral fatigue and I have never known anything like it. I spend hours just sleeping, and even just getting a shower wipes me out.
If you've had this how long did it last and did you do anything to give yourself more energy?

Not post viral fatigue, but I have been ill for a while - getting there now - I can have a shower or do something interesting but not both.

I can manage a strip wash now but I had some of those adult wipes- intended for people years and years older than I- they were quite good. Available from Amazon - a godsend in certain circumstances.

I hope you feel better soon.

Thank you Kittylester. I hope you make a full recovery soon.

My DD has been living with chronic fatigue syndrome for much of her adult life. She follows this plan.
My sister has post viral fatigue, and she follows a similar regime.

I had post viral fatigue after having a bad case of tonsillitis at that time we had received news of a bereavement, quite honestly I have never experienced anything like it and hope I never do again, I couldn’t lift my arms up they were like lead weights my legs also felt so heavy as if they were made of lead, even to try and walk from lounge to kitchen was an effort, like waking in quick sand, couldn’t get in the bath had to be helped into the shower and washed, it lasted around four months rest was all I could do, but I did take extra vitamins

Thank you for that MiniMoon I'll have a look at the plan.

That sounds awful. I hope you are fully recovered now.

Yes love that was few years ago, if someone had told me that could happen I must admit I don’t think I would have believed them,

I have ME and it can be very similar to post viral. I've learned to think of myself as a battery and never let the power drop below 25%. I listen to my body and don't try to fight it because I won't win. If your body is saying rest then that's all you can do. It will get better but there is no way of putting a timescale on it because everyone is different. I can only say that if you fight it then it will take longer.

I had a bout after covid. I lost control of my legs. Making it difficult to walk more than a few years and was very muddy headed. It wore off after about three months, but I didn’t regain energy for around six. Your body is telling you to slow down, and the only sensible thing to do is listen.

I had it for 10 years or more after every viral cold, cough or 'bug' I caught.

How long it lasted varied enormously, from a week or two to months and how bad and how long each attack would be could not be predicted. Finally after a minor bug I had an attack that lasted 8 terrible months.

Then one day i woke up and it had gone - and I haven't had it since. That was 10-15 years ago.

You're giving me hope M0nica!
