I'm 76 and I've just been signed off by a consultant after the pulmonary embolism I had last Easter. I've now added blood thinner to the blood pressure medication and statins I was already taking. None of them have had any adverse effect on me. My kidneys are better than they were last year and I'm doing Tai Chi twice a week and going out with a walking group once a week. All in all I think I'm fitter than I've been for several years.
I am in touch with people in their 70s and 80s who are undergoing treatment for cancer and I would say that it depends very much on the type of cancer and the treatment involved. When DH's cancer became terminal the consultant told me straight away that he had signed off the DNR because DH had been through enough. DH was too ill to know what was happening and I was completely in agreement.
