Frequent nosebleeds

I used to have nosebleeds like this. They would go on for an hour or more and I would lose big thick clots of dark blood. I was taking asperin which my doctor has prescribed for a condition and these do thin the blood. I stopped taking them and the nose bleeds mysteriously ceased and have never returned. I think you do need to have this seriously investigated.

My young son had this a lot but he grew out of it. In your case, without sounding alarmist, make an appointment to see your GP. It could be something simple, such as blowing your nose too hard, or sneezing which has resulted in a burst blood vessel. Have you checked your BP recently? I doubt it’s any thing very serious, but please see your GP. Best wishes x

I started having nosebleeds about 3 years ago. They were severe and I couldn't understand it as like you, Valels, I had never had one in my life. My GP couldn't find anything wrong. I had recently gone on stations and looked at the side effects sheet. Sure enough nosebleeds were at the top of the list. I stopped taking them and the bleeds stopped.
A friend recently began having them and the GP gave her some antibiotics cream for her nose. The bleeds stopped. I hope you can get this sorted. It's no fun.

See your GP and ask about 'Naseptin' cream.
I sometimes suffer with nosebleeds, which are bad enough during waking hours, but when I wake in the early hours, with blood all over my face, in my hair, the pillow soaked through with it, and blood running down my throat, I contact the Dr a.s.a.p.
'Naseptin' cream (only on prescription) popped into my nose 4x per day for 10 days works wonders!

juggernaut I've tried the naseptin cream and thought it was helping till bleeds started again but it's probably worth another try. It must have been awful for you when you had bleeds at night. It's happened to me a couple of times but, luckily, some instinct has woken me up seconds before it started.
I'm sure I'll get this sorted soon.

My 90y old stepfather started with the same on Boxing Day. Bleeds lasted up to 2 hours. In the end his blood levels were so low he needed a blood transfusion.
But the point to my post is that Naseptin prescribed by the GP was useless as (natch) he could only apply it to his nostrils. Turns out (following an urgent ENT appointment) that a flexible ‘scope revealed the point of bleeding was much higher up - think level with the inner eye - and a syringeful of gel with a haemostasis agent (to aid clotting) was needed and did the trick. This was after bleeding out every night for 3 weeks, poor man

As a child of 7, I had very heavy nosebleeds for no reason. One of the remedies my school tried was putting a cold key down my back and getting me to drink water from the far side of a glass.
Eventually I was admitted to hospital and my tonsils taken out
I only had one nose bleed again and that ten years later.
I still don’t know why taking my tonsils out stopped my having heavy nose bleeds every few days

My DF had his nose cauterised to prevent his.

Ask your Gp to check your thyroids.
That can be a sign of having a low thyroid count.

I had this, dr offered cauterisation if it persisted, I only mentioned in passing at appointment for something else.
I eventually realised it was due to a Glucosamine and Chondroitin supplement that I was taking.
I didn’t fancy having the procedure so was grateful to have worked out the cause.

I’ll be on my 5th cauterisation next week, a thin blood vessel in my nose.
