Iodine

I started taking iodine tablets many years ago thinking they would cause an increase in thyroxine production and I might lose some weight. Soon after that my neck felt slightly swollen which may have been my thyroid gland. I then developed an underactive thyroid for which I've been taking thyroxine tablets for the last 30 years. Whether this was a coincidence I'll never know, but I'd never suggest taking iodine tablets. My grandmother had an underactive thyroid I believe, she died in 1955.

I have life long issues with coughing. Had the tests nothing identifiable. Always on the look out for any suggestions and have tried everything except this.....iodine. Apparently most of the population is deficient in this important mineral. Don't just think thyroid, iodine is needed in every cell in the body. Food like fish from the ocean, eggs, fresh meat and idonised salt can help but you really need to supplement. They used to add it to flour but not anymore. Not the iodine you put on a cut by the way. There is loads of evidence out there to why we should all have extra. Here is just a few of the conditions that could benefit from extra iodine.
No energy
Weight gain
Depression
Hearing loss
Brain fog
Breast lumps
Hair loss
Skin conditions like psoriasis.
The Japanese are not short as they eat plenty of seaweed rich in iodine and they live long lives and have the lowest breast cancer rates.
