As a royalist but also a princess Diana fan, I'm struggling, I can't stand to see camilla crowned queen, I don't want to watch, it's making me less of a royalist, I wish he'd just pass it on to William and Kate

You can have views on which works better. But some things are just wrong.

nadateturbe Sat 06-May-23 14:37:44

No no Easybee it is wrong. Not democratic.

Callistemon21 Sat 06-May-23 14:10:28

Doesn't Camilla look lovely?
Yes, she does.
Someone criticised her for smiling but it was probably a smile of relief!

eazybee Sat 06-May-23 14:08:30

No, Nadertube, you believe it is wrong.

It seems to me that possibly the greatest of the 'self-serving' are the royals themselves.

Of course. Why can people not see that?
There's no point in having a sense of occasion for something that you don't agree with, especially when it is wrong.

Doodledog Sat 06-May-23 12:37:25

I'm not a Royalist (nor a republican really), but it would happen whether I watched it or not, so I'm enjoying the choral music and the general campness of the occasion. Doesn't Camilla look lovely?

Mr Dog has gone for a walk in protest grin. I've pointed out that nobody will either know or care, but if it makes him feel better, what's the harm? It'll save me from listening to him moaning about it all, at least.

I agree Iam64. Why can't people have a sense of occasion just for one day. (My handbag comment last night was a little joke, btw).
Anyway, Harry is pretty insignificant now.

This comment by Lexisgranny on another thread sums it all up ............
^I do hope that everything today goes without a hitch, that grievances are put aside for this one day, so that we can all enjoy the spectacle without ill feeling, I hope that the King and Queen have a memorable day.^

Yes.

Another yes.

Harry walked in with his cousins, Anne had a friendly word with him when she sat down.

MayBee70 Sat 06-May-23 11:56:07

I love the pomp and ceremony and music and horses. It just makes me feel connected to our history which, imo is amazing. The history of our country is pretty much the history of its royal families. I do wish I could stop wondering how people manage to go so long without needing the loo, though.

I will just enjoy all the pageantry, it will be spectacular and probably just once in a lifetime for me. I have no particular feelings for the monarchy except I could imagine it would be hard to choose a decent President here, there are a lot of self serving twits around.

I’ve just looked at the DM on line mollygo. As ever, rather than ignore Harry, there is endless speculation about where he’ll sit, rows behind everyone else they say, whether he’ll be refused permission to wear uniform, how nobody in the family likes him etc etc. what’s the point of him coming they moan. Then, they have a royal author/commentator advising the king to cut all ties with Meghan Markle.
Columns of nasty unnecessary bile and on such an important day for the king and the country. Yuk

I think I'd be quaking in my boots if I were Harry coming face to face with Camilla now after what I'd said about her. 👜 😤

No. His impressive sense of self justification. will stop him worrying about that.
I’m hoping the media give him a rest, rather than more fodder for his next book.

LondonMsFitz at 17.38 bringing a bot of good old English irony
I’m watching with a republican feminist friend. She wants to comment on hats while watching history made. I’m happy to enjoy that with her, as well as loving the music and the pageantry. Those horses and their riders.

Like her or not, I don't think it's right to describe Camilla as scheming. How is she scheming and where is the evidence of this?

Vintagenonna Fri 05-May-23 19:32:57

Funny how many ragged trousered philanthropists are still around.

Taichinan Fri 05-May-23 18:27:42

I wish I'd found this thread earlier! Koalama you took the words right out of my mouth!! I can just about stomach Charles, as after all he is the rightful successor, but I will never, ever look upon that scheming woman as queen! I will certainly not be watching the ceremony, but I'm partial to the pomp and ceremony and the amazing precision of the military so I shall be watching that. Probably do my Tesco shop while they're being crowned!

Just put my bunting up outside, and the union flag is ready
for tomorrow morning. Quiche made (not broad bean and spinach but the salmon and asparagus one that someone kindly posted on another thread; delicious), prosecco chilling so all set.

A Happy Coronation Day to you All!

I meant to make a quiche! 😲
Never mind, there's always baked beans .......
