Cataract removed and lens replaced

On Wednesday, I am going to the Exeter eye hospital to have a cataract in my right eye removed and also have the lens replaced
I have been very very shortsighted from when I was born and my left eye is practically useless more so, since a few years ago, I had an ulcer in it
so I am feeling a little trepidation as technically I only have one eye. The nurse explained to me on my assessment last Wednesday which lasted two hours that the lens does not go on the surface of the eye. It sits behind the iris and pupil….
Anyway, just wondering if anybody else has had this experience as I need a little reassurance …

Had mine done different lenses in each eye
L eye quite complicated but have had no problems
It is a new world once the cataracts are removed
Good Luck

I am so glad you opened this thread Shinamae Thank you so much for the reassurance I, too. have had through reading these mails
Following a chemical burn whilst at school, I was left with a scarred cornea and eventually the sight deteriorated and now ( admittebly more than 60 years later) the sight has gone in the more damaged eye
Colour vision has deteriorated in the good eye sothat in the garden I cannot easily distinguish seedlings from soil. What is worse is that I now have AMD in the remaining eye and have been offered a cataract operation. I just wonder if I go ahead, whether the AMD will be exacerbated..... would I be better holding off until vision is impossible?
My consultant tells me the choice is mine. Yes , it is, of course but based on somewhat limited advice and knowledge

All done, and I am amazed at being able to see clearly for the first time without glasses or contact lenses in over 65 years.
And this is only the first day, not even 24 hours yet I can’t express what this means to me
Thank you all so much for your reassurance and advice💐💐💐

Thinking of you today Shinamae.
I checked and yes, it was called New Medica. At Marsh Barton.

It was called New Medica I think . I'll check the paperwork in the morning.
Meanwhile, best wishes...

I will be back to report on the outcome of my surgery hopefully sooner rather than later….😬

My OH had new lenses in both eyes a few years ago (done privately in a specialist clinic in Guildford) and was fine after a couple of weeks. Sees a lot better now, even notices dust on furniture (unfortunately)!

Just had my 2nd cataract op done at a Spa Medica clinic. The time between 1st one and optician check to 2nd one was 5 weeks. Very calm and professional all round, despite me being very nervous. Still in the recovery stage, no lifting, eye drops and bathing daily but my long distance sight is so good. Need reading glasses also sunglasses as everything is so bright.

Both my parents had it done and recently a friend did. All a great success.

Good luck!

henetha

I had my cataract done in Exeter (not the NHS hospital though, - I was sent to a private clinic) a few months ago and was very apprehensive. But the whole thing went well and was fine.
I can now see far better, - out of that eye.. - than I ever could.
The other eye will need doing in abut two years.
So good luck Shinamae . I am sure you will be fine. Let us know how it goes, please. smile

Was it Spa Medica henetha?

Shinamae this was my sisters story too, she was never happier than after this was done for her. Gone were the thick glasses forevermore.

I too have been very short sighted nearly all my life ( measles as a child) I’ve worn contacts since I was about 14 but I’m having trouble removing them at night. I’m wearing my new glasses today but the world seems full of curved doors and counters and I feel very wobbly so I’m interested to hear that new lenses in the eye improve sight. I hope all goes well Shinamae and will be interested to know how it goes

I have had successful cataract operations on both eyes, and took the opportunity to have my severe myopia corrected. Well worth the (painless) procedures.

Rosiecat Mon 12-Jun-23 22:09:47

Shinama
I have glaucoma and had the lens in both eyes replaced within 2 weeks of each other. Same strength lens in both eyes which improved my sight.
The first thing that I noticed was how colours all seemed so much brighter. I still need reading glasses but both lenses are the same strength.

Hi shinamae i had a very dense cataract on my left eye and totally lost sight in that eye, i had cataract surgery with lens replacement 4 weeks ago, within hours i could see clearly again, hope your surgery goes well smile

I have 4 friends who have had this done. All of them very pleased with their results.

PamelaJ1 Mon 12-Jun-23 21:18:34

I haven’t but a friend has and it was very successful. Good luck
