Has Anyone Shrunk?

I dug out a maxi skirt from my wardrobe yesterday which I haven't worn since before the pandemic. Now it doesn't stop just above my ankles but drags over my shoes onto the floor!! Eek! I must have shrunk.

I do have osteoporosis but my height had stayed the same 5' 3" when measured at hospital visits.... last one 18 months ago.

I told my grandchildren that old people shrink. They were fascinated and kept wanting to measure me against the kitchen door, where their own heights are marked.
I think they expected me to end up the size of a toddler!

I’ve lost one inch in height since being a young woman.

This is very reassuring as I’ve recently discovered that I’m 5’3” rather than 5’5”.
At a family gathering we were comparing heights and I found I was shorter than my daughter when I’ve always been taller than her.
Must stretch more!

Yes 2 1/2" so far ... had always been 5'5", not any more! Degenerative discs in my lumbar and sacral spine being the culprit sadly as for many of you.

It just goes to show that no-one likes being short. I’ve always been 5’0” and always hated it. I stopped growing at around age 11. I struggle to find clothes to fit (short body/short legs). I can’t reach the kitchen cupboards without a stool. I have to ask for help reaching items in shops (sometimes I just give up and think - if they can’t put things within reach, forget it! Take note Aldi.) 😎

I've lost about an inch and a half. I used to be 5' 3" and now I'm 5' 1.5". Some of that is natural loss, some is to do with the disc compression in my neck due to advanced DDD. But I'm feeling even shorter these days because my TWELVE year old granddaughter is now about 1.5" taller than me, and still growing!! 🤦‍♂️

Yes! 2 inches!

tictacnana Wed 02-Aug-23 19:23:02

I’ve lost 2.5 inches… scoliosis.

DutchDoll Wed 02-Aug-23 19:07:31

I'm 4'10" if I've not shrunk! Always tricky reaching things on what's just normally high eg hanging my trousers up on the higher rail in my wardrobe. I now need to use a stool. I'm hoping that I don't lose a couple of inches as 4' 8" sounds more than 2" shorter than 4'10"!
I would love to lose several inches off my width, especially my waist but I expect that I'd find that tricky as all my clothes then wouldn't fit me!
Never mind, I'm still me however fat or short I am!

Sorry to say this, but, it seems to be a sign of age, note, I didn't say old age.

Gwenisgreat Wed 02-Aug-23 16:57:02

Yes, I have shrunk, sadly only in height and not width!! Life is so unfair!

Bijou Wed 02-Aug-23 15:09:13

When I was in my twenties I was 5ft 2inches. I am now 4ft 11 inches and also bent. Cannot reach shelves.

Jane43 Wed 02-Aug-23 15:01:18

I used to be 5 feet 8 inches but I have lost 2.5 inches, my DH is the same as he has always been at 6 feet 1 inch.

I was a bit worried as my husband seemed suddenly taller than me. I blamed my GP for taking me off HRT and asked for a scan. The two lovely ladies who scanned me said that it was definitely my husband’s fault for growing taller!
The scan came back as okish and will be repeated in three years. In the meantime the doctor has given me calcium and vitamin d3 tablets.

BigBertha1 Wed 02-Aug-23 14:49:23

Me too lost an inch and I stoop due to back pain (arthritis - spinal stenosis) DH has lost an inch too which is a surprise as he doesn't have any problems in that regard. I always sad I like men who are 6ft or just over I wonder if I should give him the sack now for not fulfilling the job description?

Treetops05 Wed 02-Aug-23 14:40:59

My husband was 6 2" on our wedding day, he is now officially 6 ft 1/4". Mind you he now possesses a double wife so inflation served him well ;)

I’ve shrunk by 2 inches following two knee replacements. I lost weight for the operation and was pleased my BMI was normal. After the operation my BMI took me in to the overweight verging on obese side! Furious.😂😡 Will have to diet again and I am certainly not good at it.

Debbi58 Wed 02-Aug-23 14:29:27

I'm sure we do shrink as we get older, I'm 59yrs old and have always been tall and slim . I've not noticed anything yet , but my Mum , who's 83 has definitely shrunk a bit and her mother, who was 103 when she passed away, was tiny when she died 🤷‍♀️

HeavenLeigh Wed 02-Aug-23 14:21:25

Yes I have was 5.8 and half I’m now 5.7 and not happy about it as I loved being tall,

HannahLoisLuke Wed 02-Aug-23 13:59:09

I’ve lost two centimetres from 175 cm to 173 so still tall. Doctor says it’s the cushioning between the the spinal discs flattening and osteoporosis.

MaggsMcG Wed 02-Aug-23 13:56:24

When I started work back in 1967 I was 4' 11 and three quarters I always stated I was 5'. It wasn't until I was in my 60's that I actually got officially measured again and I was 4' 10 and a half.
So I have definitely shrunk. Which is really a pain as I was too small anyway.

Norah Wed 02-Aug-23 13:38:30

Yes. Several inches in height.

Musicgirl Wed 02-Aug-23 13:35:35

I was 5’4.5 and my daughter a petite 5’1 and always felt a lot taller than her. Last year, I noticed that on a photo of us together that I was much nearer her height than I had realised (she, of course, had already noticed) and am probably more like 5’3 these days. Osteoporosis runs in my family on my mother’s side. My grandmother probably lost 6” and had a true dowager’s hump; the same with my aunt. My mother has a slight dowager’s hump and knew she had lost some height but got a shock when she was measured at 4’10.5 - a loss of around 3”.
