HRT Evorel Conti patches bleeding, help!

I am 68 and after years of low dose Elleste Duet tablets, I thought it would be sensible to change to patches.

I have been using Evorel Conti patches for 7-8 months but have had spotting/very light 'period' every 2-3 weeks. I have made an appointment with the GP , but I wondered if anybody else has experienced side effect bleeding for more than 6 months?

It seems peculiar to only bleed at regular intervals. I would have thought that if something was very wrong, it would be more less continuous?

Any advice gratefully received!

Hi, getting the right form of HRT is very difficult as we are all unique, what suits one person, won't suit another. Spotting is listed on the side effects for Evorel Conti, and it sounds as if its not the right one for you. I am 68, I was on Estraderm Patches for many years due to a total hysterectomy at the age of 40. These were the only patches that I got on fairly well with. I'm not a doctor, but I feel that perhaps you don't need the progesterone, especially as you are also older now. I don't take anything, I just stopped all of a sudden. It was as if my body was telling me, you don't need it anymore. If you haven't had a hysterectomy, it might be best to stop taking the Evorel Conti, and definitely discuss with your doctor. I wish you all the best.

Anyone with a womb needs to take progesterone if on HRT, it protects the womb.

Any unexplained post menopausal bleeding should be reported and you should be fast tracked (within 2 weeks - although this is optimistic) for a scan, primarily this is to check the thickness of the womb lining. As you're on conti you shouldn't have break through bleeding. Good luck.

Thank you both of you for replying, I still have a womb so I know I need the progesterone and I've heard that spotting/bleeding on Evorel Conti patches is normal up to 6 months but it's now 7 months on it for me......

I've now got to wait 11 days for a face to face appointment with a GP so I'm starting to worry that it's something sinister!

Alison, the vast majority of instances of unexplained bleeding prove to be nothing significant, and as you say are very likely a side effect of HRT. I had two instances of post menopausal unexplained bleeding and everything was fine. All best wishes x

Thank you Wenmore, the panic is retreating now! I think it probably is the patch hrt causing the bleeding. After all, it only started when I changed to patches.
