Twisted Knee Ligament, any advice please?

I've had quite a few problems with hips over the last 3 years and am now in possession of 2 lovely new ones - problems solved? Oh no, now I've got a twisted ligament in my left knee. I did think it was a knee replacement job so was quite happy when physio said knees show no signs of arthritis but ligament is damaged. Well, I thought that would be an easy fix - wrong! I see physio once a week and do the exercises but every single damn morning my leg from knee up to top of thigh is so tight and painful I'm finding it very difficult to be positive. Anyone suffered from this and found a working solution? I have a small tens machine and use that every morning which is quite painful at time but does loosen the muscle but OMG I despair some days. Thanks for reading and letting me get this off my chest - any helpful tips appreciated.

I've had torn ligaments in my ankle and it did take a while to mend, probably as long as a break in fact.
Sorry not to be more cheerful but cold compresses and elevation were recommended then gentle stretching exercises later on. Do them lying down to avoid putting a strain on your knee.
Did the physio give you a knee support? I had a cricketer's splint when I tore the meniscus.

Don't try to do too much too soon.

Have you got a walking stick to help with stability for the time being?

It depends if it was the ACL or not, the physiotherapist should have advised you as that would be more serious.

Thanks for getting back to me, I'm seeing physio again next week and will bring that up. I have looked at different supports and there's so many out there, but will now look for the cricketer's splint. Luckily have a nifty walking stick from hip problems which I'm using.

I've just remembered RICE but the advice might have changed:

R Rest
I Ice
C Compression
E Elevation

The physio should print you off some advice and instructions.
Ask for advice about a support, they should provide ne if necessary. I did find it a nuisance to wear!

Good luck.

CyberBug123 just wanted to sympathise really. as you are having regular physio I don't know what else can be done - heat packs, cold packs, GIN- sorry to be frivolous. I sure you are on top of your pain meds but it might be worth reviewing them with the GP/Pharmacist. Hope its not too bad a day for you. My hands are giving me merry hell. Don't know what to do with them.

Have you been offered a scan to determine exactly what’s going on with your knee? I know physiotherapists are very knowledgeable about joints but his diagnosis can only be an educated guess can’t it?

Thanks all, haven’t been offered a scan as yet but just had appointment through for NHS physio next month so hopefully things will get moving in more ways than one. Going to carry on with private physio until then. Gin definitely helps! I had been on co-codamol after hip surgery but am weaning off them because tbh they don’t seem to make a difference to knee/thigh pain but maybe I need to take them more often.
