👯‍♀️👯‍♀️Hips and Knees part 4 👯‍♀️👯‍♀️

I have just returned from a very strenuous but enjoyable holiday in Cornwall with both my families celebrating my DD 50th . I had a second injection into my hip nearly two weeks ago and although still a bit painful managed lots of tricky steep paths and rough steps with the odd arm and my trusty hiking stick ! So pleased with the outcome even though not completely pain free. I have resolved to walk more at home even if a bit boring!

Still not on Active so I will just wish everyone a happy and sunny day and a good weekend. I am off to Italy for a short break this weekend so need to get out of bed and start packing.
I have been studying Italian with duolingo and learned that a cornetto is not an ice cream but a croissant,

I did the same and it worked, always worth a phone call.

I'd completely forgotten that I was in so much pain I rang my consultant's secretary to ask about my position on the list and it resulted in my knee replacement being brought forward.

Nannytopsy you could ring your consultant's secretary and ask to be remembered if there is a cancellation because you are in so much pain. You could also ask her where you are on the waiting list as you were thinking of booking a relaxing holiday!!!!

My friend went to her GP and nagged him. Next thing is she's got pre op next week and a date for op in September.
Try asking the GP to chase up the referral?

Still waiting for a date! They thought September but not heard anything yet and tomorrow is the last working day in August. I didn’t realise “ in the New Year” meant some time in 2024. Maybe.

Gosh I hope it does Charleygirl. When I had mine done the surgeon was saying it could last 40 years. Mind you, I'm very careful with it. No road running or wild jumping about aka dancing!

I agree with Aveline re exercises. I am fine. I had so much pain after each knee replacement exercising was the last thing on my mind.

I am glad I only have 2 legs but I am unsure if the first TKR in 2012 will "see me out".

Redcar No one is upset, every surgeon has their own view on managing patients post op. It can be confusing, but leaves us to decide what is best for us.
I bought a second hand chair with a 90 degree back, my surgeon or the physio didn’t seem bothered by the 90 degree rule, which was just as well as I am short and found the chair very uncomfortable so I passed it on to someone who was taller and grateful .

I checked the NICE guidance. I prefer to do my own research as to what's really proven to be best.

aveline I’m not new to this site and am aware of the differing opinions on exercise. Sometimes as patients we don’t really know what to do for the best, when physiotherapists and consultant’s can’t agree between themselves.

Redcar you must be new to this site or you'd have heard the opinions on exercises. Totally unnecessary. Just walk about. It's what legs are for not pointless static movements.

Welcome homegrankle I hope that you managed to get some sleep last night. Rest as much as you can, but also do the exercises (if you’ve been given an exercise sheet) and have a little walk indoors to start with. If you weren’t given any exercises to do, the Versus Arthritis website has some specifically for post operation hips! But don’t go mad with them! I was shocked to be told recently that I should still be doing the exercises although my op was last December!

Grankle so pleased to hear you are home. As others have said, you need to rest and catch up with sleep. The first few days will be difficult but the worst is over.

Enjoy the mini heatwave if it comes.

It's great you're home. Please rest and sleep as much as you can. Your body will feel so drained of energy for a wee while. Take it easy as the healing starts.

Welcome home! It doesn't matter how slow you are. Enjoy resting and you'll gradually find yourself healing and doing more. No need to try and rush. The body heals itself amazingly.
