OK here goes it's a sensitive subject but after experiencing some unpleasant symptoms and consulting Dr Google- I know I shouldn't but I think I may have developed one of these. I'm 9 week post a diverticulitis attack which resulted in a bowel perforation which was treated by antibiotics and assume healed. I am awaiting a follow-up with the hospital but have phoned to find out how long and due to current waiting times for appointments its going to be another 8 week. Anyone any knowledge on these things - if I go to gp it will be after Christmas if not new year before I get an appointment with them. I tried phoning gp for advice but there's even a wait for telephone appointments. I'm wondering what tests are done for these things and if it's possible to arrange them ie private MRI?

Most private hospitals now have private GPs you can see, so, as you are contemplating paying, why not contact your local private hospital and arrange to see a GP there.

They will be able to examine you and, if necessary send an email to your GP rccommending a referral in the NHS or refer you to another private specialist at the hospital

Quite a few years ago but a relation had one operated on privately in the RVI in Newcastle by Professor Hilton I think he will have retired by now. It was completely successful.

If it is painful - head to A & E.

All the best!

A friend had this problem, which was originally caused by an abcess. I remember it causing her some problems but was cured by sealing each end of the fissure with a type of glue..... Yes glue and was a complete success. This was a good few years ago and no problems since.
Good luck I'm sure it will be sorted out for you.

Thank you for all your replies much appreciated. I've booked a private mri and report will be sent to gp hopefully this will either jog them into action and I can get appropriate referral. Thanks again xx
