I have a small wart on the side of my nose. I'm conscious of it but of course no-one would ever mention it. Has anyone ever effectively used any wart remover? There are lots online but I have no idea which to choose. Or would I be better advised to ask my pharmacist? Last resort - would a skin clinic remove it for me?

Some beauty practitioners might do it. You need to have a ring round and ask. Beauty practitioner removed some small warts for me.

Can you speak to your GP? Are you certain it's a wart?

I had what I thought was a wart on my nose . I asked the Pharmacist if he could recommend wart remover and he told me that they aren’t used on the face, to stay out of sun and to speak to my GP. I did and she sent me to see a dermatologist. It turned out I had skin cancer (not the melanoma type) and had to have it removed in the hospital.

I agree, speak to your GP. He/she will recommend the best way forward.

I remember having warts on my fingers when I was 12 or so, and some of my siblings did also. Other relatives had warts on their hands too. Warts are caused by a virus, similar to verucas on feet.
My warts, and those of my siblings vanished eventually - not sure how long, but there was a local priest who could make them disappear overnight. That worked also. None of us have been troubled with them since.

I had a wart on my finger, which I kept catching on things, which made it bleed.
I spoke to the pharmacist, who had a look, agreed it was a wart, (I have had it on and off for years), but he said he wanted to check my medications first, in case of contraindications.

Perhaps it would be better to check with a medical professional. I certainly wouldn't ask a beautician to deal with it.

I had a wart on my stomach and went to see my GP about it. He said my two options were to leave it or have it frozen off so I opted to have it removed. It took about 20 seconds. After 2 weeks it had dropped off and has now healed completely. That was 4 weeks ago. My friend went to her GP who said that the NHS no longer freeze warts so I think I was lucky. May be worth asking your GP for advice.

I had a wart on my finger when young and my auntie paid me sixpence for it & it disappeared within the week! Can't remember if it transferred itself to her.
As it's on your nose I too would visit the GP to check what it is.

I have 2 warts on my hand, I have been using a wart remover from the chemist for months and they are still the same. I have to cover them with plasters as I am worried my 9 weeks old grandson will catch the virus.
Spoke to my GP an she said NHS don’t remove them and she said try tea tree oil. But if anyone knows of anything that successfully removes warts please tell me.

I went to a dental appointment when I had a wart on my bottom lip. He made me an appointment to see a dermatologist who removed it.
I would consult your GP before doing anything yourself.

Some things that look warts may be Basal Carcinomas, and these will be removed and checked under the NHS by a dermatologist |(referral from your Gp).

However, as a cost saving measure any such warft that comes back negative is no longer removed by NHS (counted as cosmetic)

I had a whole group of these come up on my left cheek. Caused me a great deal of distress, would sit talking to people always resting that side of my face on my hand. Even began not wanting to go out to meet people.

During this time did have to go to dermatologist to have a BC removed, and she said it would only have taken her few minutes to sort out all those others, but she was not permitted to do so.

They were definitely effecting my mental health, and eventually I had no choice but to dig into my very meagre savings and have them removed privately.

Each morning as I look into the mirror (had hated even seeing my face in a mirror),I know it was money well spent - BUT still feel that cosmetic as it may have been, when it is on your face it should be dealt with under NHS.

Two of my daughters sorted out the clinic i attended, lots of of 'beauty' clinic do things like botox, etc. but they ensured that the clinic I attended had a clinician with appropriate qualification.

For years I had a wart on my thumb. The remover was bright green! Not only that but it didn’t seem to work. Then I read of a herbal remedy - the white juice out of a dandelion stalk. This dried brown so hardly visible but most importantly got rid of the wart after several applications and it didn’t return. I think there must be a natural acid in the dandelion stem.

For a wart on the face however, I think I’d get it checked with the pharmacist or GP as others have suggested.

I've got what I think is a wart, high up on the side of my eyebrow. It's easy to hide it with my hair.
But I'm just wondering if I should get it checked out, after reading these messages.

henetha Wed 26-Jun-24 10:32:47

Sorry OP. I'm afraid I don't know of any remedies for warts.
I hope you find out soon.

Years ago my sister had one on her hand and put dandelion stem on it, it must have worked but it isn't there any more!

Just cut a dandelion stem and hold the hollow bit around the wart- what's to lose?

Franbern is absolutely right -never attempt to remove a wart just in case it's a basal cell carcinoma .

GPs don't treat warts , but there are plenty of wart removers available from Boots .

NotSpaghetti Wed 26-Jun-24 13:21:35

henetha - yes, do get it checked.
Please.

My GP 'froze' a large wart on my elbow. The first treatment didn't work and he gave it a stronger blast which did. It has never recurred. I don't think any OTC remedy would have got rid of that stubborn thing.

I had a wart below my collar bone, and it was growing like a horn, my gp prescribed salicylic acid...after about a week it came off...not to be used on the face...or neck...
