Last week, just hours before I was going away for a few days, as I ate my breakfast something happened in my mouth. Was actually a filling coming out. No chance to see anyone, \I went away, but this has left a very sharp spur on my tooth which rubbed underneath my tongue giving me a large and extremely painful ulcer there.
I had problems both eating and speaking due to this.

Purchased various items at Boots, but it was like having sharpened nail in mouth and made me feel very poorly.

Home on Sunday, went into dentist (private only where I live there are NO NHS ones) on Monday, fist appointment I could get was this morning.

Yes, dentit was very sympathetic and she has now sorted out the problem, put in a new filling at the cost of £120. Now that ulcer has the opportunity of healing.

Now I accept that when you feel as bad and in so much constant pain as I was, nothing is too much to pay. BUT I am on Pension Credit and (in theory) am entitled to FREE dentistry - so it does seem rather daft.

This whole matter really does need urgent treatment by the new government

Do you have an HC2 certificate? If your only income is Pension Credit and you have few savings, you should be eligible for one. It might be worth checking if you apply for one now whether the amount you have paid would be refundable.

Sorry to hear that! Losing a filling can be a real pain. Glad the private dentist was able to fix it for you, but yeah, it's crazy you had to pay £120 when you're entitled to free dentistry. Hopefully, the government will sort this out soon.

Op used private dentist so costs would still apply

Ah! Sorry, I overlooked that.
