I will say if I had a stomach bug or virus I wouldn't take it till it was gone, the stomach lining wouldn't be able to take it..

I have home made kefir for my gut, I don't drink it daily one or two days I put it in the fridge so it slows down fermentation, its easy to do and so much better apparently

I used to take probiotics after a course of antibiotics, but I read that they don’t get much further than the stomach and don’t actually get to the gut so stopped taking them

I think it depends how aand with what you take them.

DD was taking Symprove for a while and that had to be taken first thing before sheate or drank anything, I think with water and then she had to leave half an hour before she ate and drank anything else. It is the same with the Alendronic Acid tablet I take once a week.

I think if you take a tablet meant for the gut in these circumstances it gets through the stomach at a time when there is no food being digested and the digestion system is at rest and the tablet gets through before it can get up and running again.

I am open for correction on this.

I think it depends why you are taking them. I take a daily dose of Symprove, but I have a couple of chronic health conditions which it helps to manage.

Does anyone know if probiotics should be taken for a period of time (to improve gut health) or continually? They were recommended by a nutritionist as one a day supplement, to be increased following a bout of illness, while travelling or after a change of medication. Any thoughts?
