Please look at our hip and knee thread, 👯‍♀️ there is lots of information support and encouragement on there.

I had my hip replaced 2 years ago and it went really well.
I was in hospital for 2 nights and was given a raised toilet seat and sticks, it might be an idea to ask what the hospital provides.
Not long now, you will be pain free almost straight away.

The pain goes immediately. I had it done in 2015 and it has been a great success. Before I had it done I was really nervous even though I was told it is usually a trouble free operation. It is ,so believe it when you are told, you will be so glad you had it done.

I was 83 when I had mine.
It was a total success, pain free from day one, out in less than 48 hours.
Recovery was excellent although I had excellent help in my live in GD.
Never regretted as with my TKR 3 years earlier.
All aids I needed were supplied then,I don’t know about now but expect they are.
Good luck when it happens and please don’t worry.

Please ask because each hospital is different. The most important items you need are a picker-upper and a long handled shoe horn. Give some thought to bathing or showering. I only had a shower and found a stool invaluable after my knee replacement.

Occupational health should visit your home and decide what you need and deliver it. I had no pain at all and was home in three days. You can’t bend or twist for 6 weeks so may need some help, especially early on. I had to wear elastic stockings for 6 weeks so needed someone (DD) to change them for me. Buy a grabber for picking things up from the floor. The worse thing is having to sleep on your back. Do your exercises religiously.

Don’t assume you will get a visit from Occupational
Therapy for assessment and aids, it used to happen but rare if at all now. Two years ago I had nothing apart from the parting gift of a raised toilet seat and two sticks on leaving the hospital.
Definitely a litter picker upper and long handled shoe horns, a strap or long piece of material to help you get into bed are all useful and there are many other ideas on the hip and knee thread. We rarely appear on Active so look under the health forum and look out for those dancers. 👯‍♀️
