Diabetic ulcerated toe

Do check on his diabetic control
Does he do tests to see what his blood sugar is?
Is he on insulin,metformin?
You may need to be rather pro active with his care to get the best treatment.

Oh, this is exactly what our window cleaner told me last week he has. He is type 1 diabetic. He says if he has to have his toe off so be it, because he doesn’t want it spreading. It’s the long toe, next to big toe.

Oh dear this is worrying. I would make sure the leg is elevated as often as possible and you do some research into diet etc. plus ask to see the dietician for the best current advice. Pain control I important so check this out with physician to ensure this is adequate. I hope your DH is made comfortable.

This first started about a month ago now when DH complained of a sore toe. I moisturise his legs every day because he has a condition called chronic venous insufficiency. I didn't notice anything and it was only when he saw his podiatrist a fortnight ago he told him he had an ulcer under the second toe. Saw GP had antibiotics for a week and referral to the local diabetic foot ulcer clinic. Also seen at the diabetic clinic yesterday where they confirmed he probably had osteomyelitis of the bone, gave us a prescription for antibiotics and will be seen again at the end of October. Meanwhile we will be attending a local clinic every week for change of dressing.

Have been told he could lose his toe which is rather scary. He has mobility issues and his walking is poor. The wound is dressed, he's wearing his compression socks. I did ask how much he could walk but they were a bit vague.

Has anyone else had this. I think recovery time is quite long.
