Bea65 there is a thread on diet and exercise forum about these injections lot of pros and cons.

But there are no short cuts to losing weight. Took me 5 years counting cals to lose 7st still battling to lose the last stone I want off. But I haven't given up . If you had a bad food wise each day is a new start. The key is not to buy foods you have no control over and putting to much high cal food into your mouth . Plus exercise .. If you want help losing weight join the pears thread it's nearly at 1,000 but read the current thread we all are fighting to good fight. NanKate who started the thread calls dieting eating less for life. And that's what you have to do.

Whiff silly me…didn’t check the diet/exercise thread ….

It's true, there are no short cuts to losing weight, and if there were I wouldn't want them.

The choice is either loads of loose skin from a quick drug induced weightloss or surgery scars from plastic surgery. Add to that the problems of the side effects of the weight loss drug and the need to have surgery to get rid of the empty hanging skin... or the painful recovery from surgery.

I'd rather change my life through diet. Currently using the Oviva app through my Dr. I have to plot all my meals and my phone measures my activity as well. I haven't checked the diet/exercise thread either, but basically our metabolism slows down so we have to change the way we eat.

My concern on the injection to lose weigh is individuals not learning about diet and exercise.
Individuals who work at losing weight have to change the way they think about the foods they eat and healthy choices. They also need to excercise to get fit and keep the weight off. Will people change their habits before being offered this treatment or do they carry on as normal and not learn anything from the experience

I was over 19st for decades size 32. Now a size 16. I have baggy saggy skin and it will never tighten up . But I don't care . I feel better for losing the weight slowly even if it was only quarter of pound a week . I changed my eating habits and when out op for lower cal foods but still have treats but count the cals. Still write all I eat and drink everyday and count the cals . It's just become a way of life .

The only person who has been honest about weight loss who is in the public eye is Lisa Reilly she did it the hard way cutting down on food and exercising. Plus freely admits to having the excess skin removed and the problems the surgery caused her with pain and infections and admits about the scaring . While the likes of Rebel Wilson and others pretend the baggy skin magically tighten up with exercise. What utter rubbish.

Losing weight is a life long commitment and keeping it off is hard . I have a picture of my obese self in the kitchen as I never what to be that woman ever again.

Whiff is a shining example of someone who realises losing weight isn’t for the faint hearted, it’s a case of knowing what calories go in the body and how many calories you need to either lose weight or stay stable. She has been with me since 2018 when I started the Pears thread.

We all fall off the wagon but the key to success is to get back on board.

Presently I am back counting calories and it is working. I am using a great book called Cals and Carbs (for diabetics and others wanting to lose weight). It is full of pictures of different foods and their calorie count. I got it on Amazon or any bookshop for £15.99 and it is worth every penny. Check it out.

You have achieved so much all through sheer determination and hard work. I am very impressed even if you have fallen off the ladder you have persevered . This is exactly my point about the weight loss injection. People need to find some determination or things will not change for them. I am all for helping people but I would like to see some other help to get them thinking differently and change their relationship with food.

Sorry OP did the women on GM use the WLI or diet and exercise? It’s not clear .
Yes the hormone imbalance is interesting. I’ve been a size 12 for most of my adult life and since hitting menopause my weight has increased . I’m now a 12/14 depending on the shop and clothes . I’ve always had a healthy diet and exercised regularly. I’m now using the 16/8 diet and don’t eat after 6.30pm and have a healthy lunch at 1pm . And dinner at 6-6.30 .
As for the WLI I’m concerned about the side effects during and after the weight loss . Will the weight pile on after finishing the injections? .
I remember friends using lighterlife many years ago and yes the weight loss is dramatic, but it went back on when they were eating normally.

Tenko because the ladies had tried diet and exercise- the scientist lady had actually been in a weight loss program on Tv and had lost weight… having put the weight back on she wanted to know why as she had carried on healthy lifestyle changes but was now overweight- that’s why she decided to investigate why? She said someone with abnormal hormone levels would never feel full.. very interesting..

I’m not sure GN should be facilitating the private purchase of weight-loss drugs without medical supervision - as on the discount thread.
Weight-loss jabs are not a quick fix for an “Instagram body”, the Health Secretary has warned.
The medicines regulator has called on doctors to be alert to patients who are misusing anti-obesity injections, such as Wegovy or Mounjaro
It comes amid reports of people who are not obese buying the drugs online to try and get slimmer for events such as weddings or holidays, but who are becoming seriously sick, such as with malnutrition.
Wes Streeting said the drugs were “serious medicines

Bea65 Sun 27-Oct-24 13:36:24

RosiesMaw2 I don’t think I’m facilitating the purchase of the weight loss drugs… was merely asking if other GNs had heard about the hormonal imbalances that the scientist mentioned?

Well done Whiff, seven stone is a huge achievement!

I am still plodding on , using Oviva, a weightloss app the Dr put me on where you keep a food diary and are supposed to have a coach and attend meetings. Except they haven't found me a coach and a place at the meetings yet. There are some near me, but I'm on the wait list. The app tells me if a meal is balanced or too high carb or high fat, so I have been able to modify my diet that way.

I didnt know that Lisa Reilly lost weight the hard way. I'd always thought she got a gastric band. I think natural is the best way even if it takes a long time and takes will power to keep it off. Well done Whiff flowers

I remember seeing these two ladies, and I did think the lady who mentioned the ‘hormonal imbalance’ was maybe clutching at straws a wee bit, and I’d wonder if she really did stick to the same healthy lifestyle after her TV show was over.
It was the old story of ‘nothing worked’, but she had managed to lose something like 6 stones, so obviously her diet and exercise did work, so possibly she didn’t keep it up.
I always remember my GP telling me years ago to remember that nobody came out of Belsen fat, so if you were overweight you were eating too much.
