Never ever taken any medication for my diabetes, I control it with a low carb diet and intermittent fasting. If you can do without medication, all the better.

It’s a “flozin” medication. I was prescribed Forxiga which is similar to what you are being given.
Yes it makes you pee out sugar but can also give you a UTI so keep an eye on that.
It didn’t suit me at all..I had bouts of dizziness and severe stomach cramps.
Hope you can tolerate it as it really helps to bring your glucose levels down, if used in conjunction with a healthy eating plan.

Invokana is the brand name for Canagliflozin, which is an SGLT2 inhibitor. I take Dapagliflozin, which works in the same way.

The "flozins" have been shown to protect the heart and the kidneys. For me, it's been the most effective diabetic drug I've ever taken.

I expect you were given the lecture about side effects. The main thing is not to get dehydrated. I've been taking it for three years and I haven't noticed that I go to the toilet a lot. The drug itself doesn't dehydrate you, but you should drink plenty to keep your kidneys functioning.

Some people can't.

Forxiga is the brand name for Dapagliflozin, so that's two of us with different experiences. It's supposed to be one of the best diabetic drugs for lowering blood sugar. Cardiologists rave about it because it protects the heart. If you can take it, you'll almost certainly benefit. All you can do is give it a go and if it does have side effects, you'll have to try something else.

I was diagnosed in my 30s. I've never been overweight, never smoked, hardly ever drunk alcohol and am fairly active. Despite that, I've been diabetic for over 30 years. I tried for years to control it with a low carb diet, but I had to admit defeat. I now take three separate diabetic medications, am still very careful about what I eat and get quite a bit of exercise. Nevertheless, my HbA1c is still in the diabetic range and I have serious diabetic neuropathy. I wish I'd started medication sooner and not been so stubborn.

I so agree I developed type 2 despite being fit and a good weight . The reason was down to genetic and all the fasting in the world would not reverse it in fact it would be dangerous .

After 25 years I am now on insulin twice a day but before this all stared I had to have regular meals otherwise I would be weak and faint . I thought this would mean that I was unlikely to become diabetic but my GP said it is the opposite .

I’m not diabetic but have the greatest sympathy for anyone who is. It’s a condition that can affect almost every organ in the body, and it can be difficult to control. I hope I don’t get it as I get older, but unfortunately many people do.
