My computer knows more than you and always separates your username, but I do not always check.

silverlining48 Thu 06-Mar-25 15:36:06

Fingers crossed Charleygirl

silver lining I was washed, polished, and in my Sunday best, but I never got there because there was a mixup at the transport end. Somebody had not bothered to book me in. I had originally asked my surgery to do it because the hospital would not for the first trip. (work that one out.) After this muddle, the hospital offered to take over.

With luck I will be seen before the August BH.

Well at least you remembered your strainers Grammaretto. grin

Swimming is a good exercise though think you might need to avoid breast stroke first the time being .

Grammaretto Thu 06-Mar-25 15:20:12

Trainers*

Grammaretto Thu 06-Mar-25 15:19:19

Hope it went well Charleygirl.
I braved the gym yesterday after getting a membership at the reduced rate. I had a proper induction on 4 machines which are all good for people with new hips.
I shall try to go every Wednesday and perhaps Monday too and have a swim.

The trouble with swimming is you have to take so much stuff: costume, towel, robe, flip-flops, shampoo,
hairbrush, money for hairdryer and locker.
Gym it's just strainers and water. I forgot water wink

silverlining48 Thu 06-Mar-25 13:14:07

Hope you didn’t forget the appointment yesterday. With all those reminders you shouldn’t have.
Hope it went ok Charleygirl

Charleygirl5 Tue 04-Mar-25 21:43:21

I think I can live without a smartwatch, as I do not need a watch to tell me what to do.

I am going for an OPD appointment tomorrow having had at least eight reminders in letter, phone, email and text form. I will be saying a few words tomorrow.

grammargran and maizieD. My watch is very bossy too, I get quite cross when it tells me to get up and move, when I’ve been up and walking about for 10 minutes. maizieD I don’t know why my watch doesn’t count my steps when I use the rollator, it’s annoying because i usually walk further when I use it! I don’t know what it counts as exercise either, and it certainly doesn’t count the number of times I go up and down stairs accurately! The wonders of technology.

grammargran Tue 04-Mar-25 10:43:08

Charleygirl what a shame you opened the envelope. We get the odd one like that and I just write “not known at this address” and post it back in the letter box. I hope it gets resolved soon. MaizieD my watch is very bossy indeed, always telling me when to stand up, check my heart beat, go to bed, etc. although it does sometimes tell me I’ve closed my move ring when I’m reading my book …..

MaizieD Tue 04-Mar-25 00:01:51

I don’t understand why Redcar’s smart watch doesn’tbrecord her steps when she uses her rollator. I’ve used various pedometer devices over the years and they’ve always used hip movement to measure the number of steps taken. Which is why it counts steps when I ride as the horse’s movements move my hips as though I were walking. Half an hour or so on the horse adds about 5,000 to my step count 😂 (and I’m certainly not moving my arms very much)

I do like my smart watch for step counting but I thinks it’s a bit bossy when it tells me to stand up and do some exercises.. Especially when I’ve just sat down after some hard digging in the garden. It doesn’t seem to count that as exercise😟

It’s good to hear that everyone is doing so well.

Not since my friend sorted it out for me because the tech side was beyond me. If more information is required, he will fix it.

I am not worried because I have done everything required. The station is also a tube station, but I never use it.

silverlining48 Mon 03-Mar-25 20:32:44

Delete none … not sure how that appeared, it should have been ‘be’.

silverlining48 Mon 03-Mar-25 19:32:16

I am sure it will none sorted out Charleygirl. Hope you aren’t too worried.

grammar-gran two weeks ago, I received a letter addressed to an, I think, Sharyia Smith but the correct address. I opened it thinking it was for me. It was a penalty notice to the tune of £93 because this person had travelled from a local station to Apsley. I did not dare put it aside as I thought the next would be a court summons. I emailed the company, but it was not enough, so I asked for help from my friend and neighbour two doors away. He did what was necessary, and hopefully, the next time they reply, it will be a goodbye. He also contacted Action Fraud.

I do not need this hassle. Apart from a PM, nobody ever informs me that somebody has mentioned my name.

grammargran Mon 03-Mar-25 17:06:02

Charleygirl, what fare evasion? What have you been up to? What have I missed?

grammargran Mon 03-Mar-25 17:03:39

GN has failed again to notify me when people post on this thread so I always seem to come in late. Does it happen to anyone else? I set up my own Apple Watch, I’m totally happy with IT and love a bit of a challenge, can do anything with it, right down to using it as a phone, texting and paying for my shopping BUT I can’t hang a picture, I can barely change a plug, loathe filling up my car in case I use the wrong pump, and couldn’t possibly put air in my tyres! Sooooo each to her own. Update on hip - restarted my exercises classes today, it felt so good, if a little tricky from time to time. They are part standing, part chair based - the chair based stretching with bands I feel are particularly useful. Hope to be back to full circuit classes by late Autumn, something to aim for.

My sister-in-law had a hip replaced last Tuesday, but she has not been out yet. They live near the top of a very steep hill so that it will be very difficult. I have suggested two of her sons accompany her a few times until she gets confidence. She needs the other replaced asap, but the treatment she has and is receiving is excellent, good for Conquest in Sussex,

silverlining48 Mon 03-Mar-25 07:50:07

As for the watch , as a technophobe myself you woukd need help setting it up but it seemed simple and didn’t take long for my dd to do it.
Stupidly I think I have lost my watch so something ekse to deal with but yes I think it can encourage movement snd it’s easy to see the time even in the dark as it lights up.

silverlining48 Mon 03-Mar-25 07:44:05

I am sorry to read about your problems with fare evasion Charleygirl. Glad you have support from a neighbour as without knowing more it sounds odd.
Good luck with all that and let us know how you get on.

Charleygirl5 Sun 02-Mar-25 22:31:36

Redcar Fortunately, there is. It is imperative that I can get it on a bus because I will not be insuring the car, etc., in August, I will be selling it.

I seem to have hospital appointments at present, so once that has calmed down and this nonsense over fare evasion has finally gone to bed, I will have more time.

I did not read another name on the letter sent to the correct address—nobody I have heard of. Inside, it was a penalty notice for £93 for fare evasion, telling me when and where. I wrote a week ago, but they wanted more information, so I had to enlist the help of a friend and neighbour, and he has also informed Action Fraud. Apparently, I will hear within 10 working days.

It is all too much hassle.

charleygirl generally the four wheeled rollators are more stable than three wheelers, but don’t fold up as well. Is there a shop that sells disability equipment near you? You really need to see the different types and try them. I can’t fold mine up with shopping in it and it doesn’t fold up much, I don’t think I could get it on a bus.

Charleygirl5 Sun 02-Mar-25 08:24:27

Redcar I have looked online, but I must see how steady the gadget is. Whatever I buy must be able to fold and go on a bus, so that counts as shopping. The vast majority of my shopping is done online.

All these decisions for my pea brain.

Redcar Sun 02-Mar-25 07:17:58

charleygirl sorry, I haven’t explained the rollator very well. The seat forms the lid of a box, not a basket, you can’t see anything that’s in the box. The box will hold some shopping, but not a full week’s worth! Have a look online, there are several different types and prices!
I’ve got a smart watch too, but haven’t set up all the functions on it. It counts my steps but not if I use the rollator because when I use that I’m not moving my arms.

silverlining48 Sat 01-Mar-25 22:59:13

I am not sure of the tech Charleygirl my dd set it up. It registers steps sleep heart rate etc and also can encourage movement by pinging messages to remind you to get up and do a few more steps. It can be set first however r many steps you want to do everyday and if you do then it fizzes and flashes a bit to congratulate you. Sounds naff but it isn’t,
