I have just looked at the leaflet about TMJ the GP gave me which was very useful. She said I must see a dentist. I wrote the date on the leaflet and it was 2017 although it seems much more recent that I first had a problem.
If you Google TMJ you will find lots of info.

It sounds like TMJ. Temporomandibular Joint Disorder. Can be caused by, in my case, grinding your teeth at night.
My dentist made me a mouthguard to wear at night which helped a lot. Don't chew gum, crunch on apples, carrots and hard toffee. Dont yawn widely.
See your dentist as soon as you can. A physio can help with gentle jaw stretching exercises.

Treat your mouth and jaw very gently. Mine suddenly got worse and I could hardly open it. Had to eat very soft food with a teaspoon.
It has improved over several years but still is crunchy/clunky.

I realise this is a trivial thing compared to some of the much more serious problems on this topic but because of that I don't want to bother a doctor.
My jaw had suddenly started 'clunking' at one side when I chew. Not painful and I can still chew without problem at the other side. This has happened a few times over the years, I've put it down to maybe lying in an odd position in bed etc and it's always cleared after one or two days. This time I've had it for almost 3 weeks and it's no better and am occasionally getting face ache at that side. I've tried massaging that side of my face/jaw and moving my lower jaw from side to side but no change at all. My next dental appt isn't until May and appts are very hard to get. Does anyone have any ideas please.
