I can't understand why people are so annoyed at being given a frail score.
Surely it is a positive thing and is based on clinicians' knowledge of you and your medical history and conditions? I am also not convinced that it would be soley based on one appointment, with a nurse doing bloods.
If it ensures more targetted care, then I am all for it. I will take all the support I can get to keep me reasonably well and stay alive.
It's not based on a single appointment.
If you look at your patient record, you'll see all sorts of codes. If you're patient and have a lot of time, you can go through them all and check what they mean. A computer can do that in a fraction of a second.
Check the link I posted ihub.scot/media/5948/e-frailty-index-brief-guide.pdf
I have a code on my records for diabetes, so that's 1 point. I have another code for foot problems, so that's another point. I have polypharmacy (ie take more than five meds regularly), so that's another point, etc etc. The computer knows that. I'm classified as mildly frail. If I were to develop another condition and then be classified as moderately frail, I expect the system would flag something up. A diligent GP should take note of that and have a look at my records. If, for example, I hadn't had any GP contact for a while, they should call me in for a face-to-face check up and see whether I needed any treatment I'm currently not getting. As it happens, I get a diabetic check up every year (at least) and I get a thorough "going over" then, so there wouldn't be much point in calling me in, but some people are under the radar and don't get the treatment they should be getting. This system is supposed to stop that from happening.
