Yes to both those things, but not for me, for relatives. My sister had mitral valve replacement. She was older than your daughter though. Obviously recovery is different for everyone but obeying the instructions and restrictions of the first twelve weeks are crucial to full recovery and she will find this frustrating because you feel so much better once you have a fully working valve that it’s easy to think “I’ll just carry that shopping or push the hoover round”. I can’t emphasise this enough.
Another relative has had a forced menopause due to endometriosis. She is undecided whether to have a hysterectomy because she is closer than your daughter to menopause age when nature may solve the problem without having to have a major operation.
I also have a leaky mitral valve, but mild to moderate so not needing a repair at present.
If similar conditions form part of your family history you might want to research Ehlers Danlos syndrome.
Thank you Lathyrus3 ,they have gone into Ehlers Danlos syndrome but have said it is not that, I also have a leaky Mitral Valve which was only discovered when they did a heart scan on me to rule out an inherited problem they thought my daughter had but that was also ruled out . Endometriosis is such a horrid thing to live with so we will just hope the forced menopause is a success and she will go on to have the hysterectomy and be pain free, at least the heart problems can be sorted out and although she is always exhausted she is not in pain with the heart .
