I’ve got very mild sciatica which only bothers me at night - lying I guess in a particular position, but I can usually get the pain to go by lying semi-prone.

Yes, Lady G I'm another with numbness in my left foot. Also pins and needles, burning. All a result of sciatica.

If you can afford it get yourself a good sports physiotherapist. My friend swears by hers, she goes to one for hip and knee issues. Has done for years.

I had sciatica for quite a few years, after trying many different treatments I was referred for surgery,
I had three surgeries and now have rods and screws in my spine and have had no problems since, although my left lower leg and foot are slightly numb, this doesn’t cause me any problems.

I have had Sciatica in the past, and thought it had returned with a vengeance, in desperation I went to the doctor who suggested it might be hip related and sent me for an Xray.
Results showed bone on bone OA which was sucessfully in THR.

Left leg is now at the point of getting to be referred.

One of my discs was almost completely dislocated. Pain was excruciating. I was crawling on hands and knees. Physiotherapy, exercises done as prescribed got the disc back in place; thus saving me from having
back surgery.

I feel the same as Primrose 53. I had physio, had some acupuncture and saw a chiropractor. A lot of money spent for nothing.

Shelflife

My friend has had a dreadful time with sciatica, she eventually saw a physio and it made an almost immediate improvement. She is still having physio appointments but is feeling very optimistic now . Fortunately I have no personal experience of sciatica but if I ever do I will head straight to a physio! Good luck 💐

Physio didn’t touch mine nor did chiropractor.

Reflexology with an experienced practitioner will help or as suggested acupuncture.

I’d like to know this too. I have an achey left leg with pins and needles, and jumping nerves. Mines worse after walking, no idea why, I thought walking was good for sciatic I’ve had it about 6 months now.

A couple of Christmasses ago I was in a terrible state with sciatica. The initial bout lasted about 6 weeks and I was over the bulk of the pain but still suffering discomfort by the time my physio appointment came through about 3 months later.

The physio gave me a sheet of very simple exercises and, within a week of starting them, the discomfort went. I never thought it would leave me so do have faith you can cure the problem with exercises.

After several injuries around my body I now have a little pile of these exercise/stretching sheets and work my way through them every day as a precautionary measure. It takes me about 10 minutes and thankfully I seem more supple and haven't had any further mishaps or pain.

After 5 months of painful sciatica, acupuncture cured it for me.

I found out how painful this is back in 2017. It left me with nerve damage to my foot, it's numb all along the side front to back!!. It took 7 months for an MRI which showed 3 herniated discs pressing on the sciatica nerve, by then damage was permanent, I still have a numb foot. Through time, exercise and pregabalin for nerve pain it has subsided, but the actual cause was degeneration of the spine, hence the slipped discs. I am super careful in all I do in regard to my back. I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy. Good luck with yours I really hope it resolves.

I had several bouts many years ago eventually had surgery which solved the immediate pain but i have great respect for my spine and sciatic nerve as occasionally I feel it twinge and immediately stop and do my stretches. I think you always need to be aware if you feel a twinge and be careful.

You need a good physio not a doctor.
The right exercises done twice daily is the only way forward.
Mine went after a dreadful 6 months, 11 years on it’s never returned🤞.

Had a really painful bout in July/August last year and was off my feet for six weeks. Since then I've found walking uncomfortable and I'm still having slight discomfort in my buttocks.
Doctor's recommended exercise and painkillers. Anyone else had experience of this, please ?
