This is driving me mad as I am experiencing burning , itching and soreness.I had diarrhoea a couple of weeks ago and after that it started. I have tried Anusol and Sudacreme. It’s okay when I am still but walking especially outside drives me mad. Has anyone got a miracle cure? If so please tell me. I’m living in hope.

Loved that thread from 2016. Laugh out loud. Very much like Mumsnet used to be a few years back. Witty and very funny threads. Rarely go on Mumsnet now as its full of threads about getting offended by ILS, schools and teachers. Too many people'fuming"" about anything and everything. Is it a sign of our times? Apologies for hi jacking this thread.

Stop using toilet paper and start showering after having a bowel movement. But be careful about using soap down there as it might irritate your condition. Also, make sure you're getting plenty of fiber in your diet. And avoid spicy and acidic foods.

It's worth it though Patsy70!

I’ve ordered it, having had this problem for many years, and so wished we had a bidet. I’ll be prepared for the cold shock Aveline - thank you for the warning. 😉

I got some too on Maws recommendation. Am very pleased with it. The only thing is that it's cold!! Can be a bit of a shock at first.

*RosieandherMaw•
After you mentioned Wype I ordered some from EBay.
It came back yesterday/Sunday and I used it straight away. It’s marvellous stuff. I haven’t felt this comfortable down below in a long time. I’ve been suffering with what I think is external piles.
For anyone thinking of trying it and of course it depends on what’s wrong with you but this really worked for me. So thank you Rosie.

You most certainly can buy Canestan Athletes Foot Cream OTC. You will be questioned by the pharmacist but it's not verboten.

The manufacturers of vaginal Canesten products suggest consulting your doctor before use if you are over 60 years of age. Caution is recommended by the manufacturers of fluconazole, if you have liver or kidney issues. You are more likely to have hidden kidney problems as you get older.

Buy a bidet bottle from one of the cheap online sites, that will help.

Three* rules of middle to older ages:
Never trust a fart!
Never miss an opportunity for having a pee.
Never waste an erection.

*males only, obvs.

Just a thought but if you have small grandchildren ie primary age you might have threadworm. These can cause bowel problems and itching. Might be worth getting a treatment from the chemist to see if it helps.

I endorse the idea of Wype ... it's good stuff and cooling.

I swear by the gel from inside an Aloe Vera plant leaf for this and other skin irritations. I’ve always got a plant in my conservatory. It’s 100% natural.

Win thank you that's made me feel lot better and will be doing that in future . I do wear a extra long liner just incase it happens when out and always have spare in my bag.

Hope this might make you smile I had a told hysterectomy when I was 38 . But for years still kept ready wrapped towels in my bag my daughter asked me why ..I had read that somewhere if anyone had an accident they where the best thing to stop heavy bleeding until proper help arrived 😊 . Yes I know I am weird 😂

RosieandherMaw Sun 20-Apr-25 05:22:08

If you are over 60 you can't buy Canesten OTC, but will have to see a Dr.
OP may find a 'sitz" bath which fits on the loo - buy from Amazon- helpful and soothing. But do try Wype.

Thank you all so much. I have used sudocreme, anusol, antihistamine, 1% hydrocortisone cream and attempting to clean with the 99p water baby wipes. I no longer have a bath as this was replaced by a shower. I can no longer get out of a bath safely. I am using the hand held part of the shower to clean as much as possible. It has shown a little improvement the last couple of days. I also take one Imodium each day as for years I have had soft poo which results in my having to be forever cleaning up the residue. Would be forever checking myself when out. Told years ago by a clinic to take Imodium but never thought it sounded like a good idea but since this trouble I have been trying it. I had a difficult birth 61 years ago and had an anterior repair at the age of 25 and again at 30. My pelvic floor has been compromised and the way I was repaired involving something being moved backwards the second time I believe is the reason that is why I can never completely get rid of a small amount of residue how matter how much wiping and washing goes on. So one Imodium has helped with that so at least it appears normal after a few hours, honestly who would be a woman?🤔🤨

Thrush is a common cause of an itchy anus though most don't realise.
The yeast organism , candida , takes up residence in our gut at birth. We get it from Mum and everyone has it. It's part of our intestinal eco system but it's an opportunistic organism.
If you have had diarrhoea you have probably had a ' soggy bottom ' with soft skin being the perfect breeding ground for Thrush.
See GP or try over the counter Canestan cream or oral Fluconazole.
Good luck zx

You are all being so open and talking about an subject most people would be to embarrassed to mention. So I wonder if this has happened to anyone else it doesn't happen often but yesterday as I stripped off and sat I the duvet to put my PJ's on I farted and when I stood up there was a small poo mark . I quickly washed my bum and stripped the cover off and treated the stain and washed it straight away along with the flannel . Has this happened to anyone else ?
It has happened if I farted on the loo having a wee. But I could clean up easily. I have never marked any fabric before.

If I still had my husband then I could talk to him . I just want to know if I am alone .

Sorry this has happened to you and has upset you. It can easily happen when you let wind and happened a lot to my late partner who would get terribly embarrassed. In future sit on a towel, at least it is easier to wash and don't beat yourself up about it.
I always carry a spare panty liner in case I have a leak or a show when I am out and about.

Vaseline?

You are on the right wavelength.
I recently sa a dermatologist for this and furthermore for the same systems around my vagina.
She has prescribed Hydromol Ointment, which is a vaseline based ointment. You wash with it and cream with it after each toilet visit. It has not completely cured it, but it has changed my life. I don't suffer much if I used it all the time, the minute I stop it re-appears. I have tried about 20 different creams on. prescription but nothing has worked as well as this one. Hope this helps. (they call its a bath additive and soap substitute)

I now keep a plastic jug in the bathroom, fill it with warm water , use simple soap then use the toilet as a bidet , pour from the front.
No more irritation, works well for me.

You mention Anosol and sudocrem … both of which are useful but no one has mentioned suppositories.
Anusol and Germaloids both do good ones for haemorrhoids, but part of the haemorrhoids issue is not only pain but itching.
Do use a few of those according to dosage on packet and I think you’ll find it relieves and cures the internal and external ITCHING … combine them with the creams externally. Not cheap, but they work well. My only problem is inserting them easily. 😳

Anusol suppositories are well nigh impossible to open!
