I've been following the threads here on dentists. Until Tuesday I had two teeth, one each side of the front incisors, which had broken off horizontally leaving a stub about half a centimetre of tooth firmly still stuck in the gum and perfectly healthy (apart from small holes) but they looked awful.
I went to see a new dentist in Gloucester in January simply because they had NHS spaces. The dentist was great and said he'd be able to make them look better for me, cost probably £300 each.
I had to wait, cos I had to save up & then he was on holiday for a month so I thought I'd try someone else local (Genix) as they had NHS places now too.
But it was awful, the new Genix person said the only way to sort it was a bridge, crown or full dentures, she ruled out the composite bonding option (which I had seen on their website) and explained that crowns do fall off, and weren't a reliable alternative.
So I asked another private dentist, but they wanted £75 to even give me a quote! So I said no & waited till the Gloucester guy got back.
That was last Tuesday and he has made both teeth look soooo much better with a compound which I think is called composite bonding, I didn't have any anaesthetic cos I didn't need it, he just drilled the surface I guess to make it more receptive, & put the composite stuff on top, filed it and made sure they were comfy and now they are lovely!!! For technical reasons they had to be a little shorter than my natural ones and the colour is a tiny bit different but not so you'd notice, he explained that it should last a long time but maybe not for ever, but it could be repeated over and over again. The bill was £75, the same as an NHS filling which they probably needed anyway, for both!
So I am delighted and would happily have them renewed over and over rather than the much more intrusive options most dentists think of.
The reason I'm posting is so people will think about the dentistry they choose rather than just going for the most common things and shop around to see what different dentists offer.
