I read a scary article recently about someone whose life was made much worse by a chiropractor and is now in a very painful state.

It warned that although hearing cracks and clicks is now very trendy and you feel like something is really happening, many don’t know what they’re doing.

I went to one about 10 years ago for a knee problem who came highly recommended. He kept knocking my knee sideways with a small hammer because he said it was “out”. He then worked on my ankle. He said I would need another 4 sessions to get it right. I felt then it was a con and left it there.

In the meantime a hospital appt came through and X rays and scans showed I had a torn meniscus. Now I only trust anyone who can see inside the painful area.

I’d get a second opinion.
I saw mine three times for my back, if I feel a twinge now I do the exercises she gave me and it’s sorted.

I used a chiropractor for a hip problem and again for my shoulder. £45 for first appointment with my hip after watching me walk and testing my range of movement he said you need a new hip it’s bone on bone I can feel it and I can’t help with that. I went again for my shoulder and after two appointments it was much improved and he said only come back if it’s troubling you again. I was surprised at his honesty but very grateful. I do feel some people take advantage.

... must have been the 1980s actually.

My mother saw one in the late 60s a few times (maybe 3?) and was "freed-up" after the first session and massively impressed.
I think she went back in the 1980s or 90s for an odd session when she was experiencing stiffness again.

Once a Chiropractor gets his hands on you, you are doomed to years of treatment. I know, because I worked for one. May I add, not all chiropractors are the same. Also, I will add, they may be ok for acute problems, such as post-accident problems, but not for chronic issues, like Osteoarthritis or Rheumatoid Arthritis. That’s just my opinion

I went to a chiropractor with back pain- the GP said it would go away eventually but I didn't want to take time off work.

I always say it was the best £50 I ever spent- I walked in bent over and walked out tall and pain free. Like magic.

They did recommend further treatments but I didn't go back and have never needed to go again. That was twenty years ago.

I wouldn't pay that money. It is your money- do the travelling!

Find another chiropractor or osteopath! That is not normal.

I used to pay £40 or £50 a session -as I went along, - mostly weekly but then monthly as my back/hip improved.
Worth every penny.

No, not all are quacks.
DD visits one and says it has helped her tremendously over the years.

Do some research and go by local recommendations.

I had the same recommendation from a chiropractor. Wanted monthly payment in advance, with commitment for months of treatment. I declined. Quack.

I thought I was doing quite well at 74. I walk 3/4 miles a day ,swim a mile a week and muck outa horse twice a week no other medication apart from h.r.t. and no real aches or pains...but then
during a massage I said I had a twinge in my shoulder and was recommended to see a chiropractor.
£150 later ,I have been assessed and given a report that suggests my spine is in a dire state!!
The course of treatment suggested is twice a week for 6 weeks and then once a week for twelve weeks .....
at £30 a session.
Is it worth it?
I have had 2 sessions and didn't feel any different but is it a case of preventing future problems.
I could afford it but to be honest I prefer to spend it on travelling.
HELP what would you do?
