Hello can any gransnetters recommend any pleasant tasting dry mouth treatments that are long lasting. Thankyou.

I think I’d try and find out the cause first, before resorting to self help.
DD1 has dry mouth because of an operation near/on her parotid gland, followed by radiotherapy.

Ask at your pharmacy. I think there is just one product and not all chemists stock it. Cancer patients use it too.

Oralieve is good. I have dry mouth and use it. It was recommended to my brother during his treatment for throat cancer.

Yes, that’s the one I meant but couldn’t remember name.

I get a very dry mouth when I wake up. I usually have a glass of tonic water (no gin!) which I find quite thirst-quenching.

Hi GlammakAz59, dry mouths are rotten! They sell a couple of good products to help with this at Boots. 🙂

Georgesgran I had a tumour removed from my parotid gland almost 16 years ago and am still affected by dry mouth syndrome my dentist has prescribed a special toothpaste to protect my teeth. I hope your DD1 has made a full recovery

Do discuss this with your GP or your dentist, whichever you see first.

My understanding is that there can be lots of different reasons for your mouth feeling dry, so try to find out why this is happening.

I bought 3 small water jugs, 1 by my des, 1 by my bed and one where I sit for TV. A glass at each place. Helps to have little sips. Also bought Vocal Zone lozenges at Boots. Boots do have some products for dry mouth but have not tried them

Biotene, salivix. There could be a root cause for it though so best try to find out.

I take a few grapes and have them by the side of the bed to save me getting up for a drink. If not eaten at night, they’re nice first thing in the morning.

Chewing gum, I have Sjogren disease, so chew gum all day, it is the only thing that helps me.

I have this problem and have tried various remedies but the only one that works for me is XyliMelts. They are tablets that stick to your gum and gradually dissolve through the night.

Try to find the reason as there can be many conditions that cause a dty mouth.

Having just survived treatment for oral cancer I have used numerous dry mouth remedies over the past 21 months (and probably will for ever). Water is the cheapest of course, followed by "no sugar" chewing gum (keeps the saliva flowing which protects the teeth and gums).

Oralieve is very good BUT expensive (you might get your GP to prescribe it, otherwise buy online) and I didn't find the effects to be very long-lasting per use. I also found the taste to be too strong so I thinned it down with a bit of water. The taste might have been due to having a v sore mouth during/after treatment though. The soreness is much less now but I'm managing best with chewing gum and water - never go anywhere without the latter.

Avoid anything with sugar in it.

Also try to avoid breathing with your mouth open (if you are not talking/singing of course!) as it dries out the mouth/throat.

Best of luck xx

I use a Boots dry mouth spray which is good, it’s also on line as not all stores stock it.
