This is what the GP says I have. I had a very dry cough in March... all in my throat. I keep clearing my throat and I'm very aware when I need to swallow. It doesn't hurt but a bit of an effort. Unpleasant taste in my mouth almost all the time. I only take Peptac. I've had an endoscopy which found a hiatus hernia. I'm waiting for a nasal endoscopy. I can't help worrying it's something more serious. Any thoughts, please?
Gp has increased my Lansoprazole to twice a day for a month. So far that has improved things but if they get worse again when I go back to once a day he will test for A Pylori infection for which I will need antibiotics.
Tamblingrose, it’s sometimes called Silent Reflux because some people have few symptoms.
Another one here with this problem. Been on Omeprazole/Lansoprazole since 1999 - it has affected my bones and I now have osteoporosis. Sometimes I manage ok for a while - then something sets it off and it's unbearable without chugging half a bottle of Gavoscon a day. These episodes last upto a week and I'm currently in one now. Living on Complan and trying to sit bolt upright but my back gets so sore I can't do it. I'm going to try the doc again to see if there's anything else I can take.
I was diagnosed with „ short Barratt „ 5 years ago .Pantaprozol has done the trick .Every morning at 7 am I take the tablet . Pantaprozol apparently does affect the bones . But what choice do I have !
I was diagnosed with this after suffering from post nasal drip (PND).
I avoid caffeine and spicy foods but haven't raised the head of the bed or kept up with drinking 2 litres of water per day. I do take 2 Gaviscon Advance tablets 30 minutes after my main meal every day.
I don't get any burning in the oesophagus but sometimes I feel a sort of "gurgling" and get a feeling of fullness.
I'd live to know what symptoms others who gave LRD suffer from as I sometimes wonder if I really have it.
I’ll get myself some apples Mocar, I don’t like them but if it will reduce the burning I’ll eat them. What worries me most is that I’m becoming very hoarse, some days I find it really difficult to speak.
And yes, I have found greasy food makes things worse…
It sounds bizarre, but if you have a juicer, then small glass raw cabbage juice (an apple and maybe a little fresh ginger to make palatable in my case) really eases the horrible burning in the throat. When my symptoms flare, I use this daily. Even just eating a raw apple can ease symptoms.
I have osteoporosis, so try and avoid Omeprazole as it allegedly has a negative effect on bone remodelling.
A friend recommended using a Snorgo 3x a day (3 repeats take 36 seconds to do 😊), which allegedly helps involuntary throat muscles and eases symptoms after doing for 2/3 months. She always remembered - me, not so virtuous!
I feel happier with the idea of doing something to help myself, which also helps ease the anxiety that makes (my - at least) symptoms worse.
Hope you can get relief!

Thanks for posting Celeste but unfortunately I’m doing all those things and still having problems. Gaviscon liquid after every meal and at night improves things but unfortunately it gives me diarrhoea. As I’m also having considerable problems with my joints and can’t move at any speed that’s quite a problem. Seeing my gp next week to discuss the way forward.
I took famotidine .... only for y months...been fine since ...omeprazole didn't touch it

I have suffered from laryngopharyneal reflux for years, taking omeprazole each morning 30 minutes before breakfast.
Reluctantly having moved to non caffeinated drinks and avoiding onions chocolate and citrus fruit, it has made world of difference., so much so that I know do not use the omeprazole daily but only as required.
Occasionally I'll have a couple of slices of an orange or a square of chocolate and I follow it with a spoonful of Gaviscon , or Acidex that I can buy more cheaply in Home bargains.
We swim most evenings but wait for two hours after our evening meal and before the swim again use the Gaviscon/Acidex otherwise I get bad reflux in the lying position to swim.
I don't know if any of that is helpful but I wish you well, teabagwoman.
Oreo
My GP prescribed Omazaprole tablets which have been a life saver after I had an endoscopy for this condition. One a day after lunch means I can now eat anything at all.
Same here Oreo. I’ve been taking them for years and no problems since.
That’s very encouraging Oreo.

Yes I am always exhausted.
My breathing is bad and I have a chronic cough after eating. It really is debilitating I'm afraid
Mrswoodcutter, do you find that you’re permanently tired? I’m ready to go back to bed by the time I’ve had breakfast! Don’t know if this is down to the reflux or whether there is something else going on as well.
I have this and have found nothing works. I am on medication and avoid lots of acidic foods. I now weigh only just over 6 stone and despair. Sorry not to be able to help but this is my reality.
The health gods are really not being kind to me, the last few years it’s been one darn thing after another. Now it seems that I have laryngopharyngeal reflux. My next medical appointment is in a couple of weeks and I’d be glad to hear about other people’s experiences and what helped them. I’m doing all the self help things like small meals, avoiding fatty or acid foods and raising the head of the bed up and I’m on medication but so far nothing seems to have made a lot of difference.
