Adjustable beds- anybody have one?

I bought one 2 years ago because of my bad back and all my other aches and pains, I bought an all singing and dancing one with a pop up tv at the bottom and massage, and a tempa mattress.
I can highly recommend it it’s the only place where I can have relief for my back
If I were buying it again I would probably do without the massage as I don’t really feel it’s strong enough to relieve my pain.
It cost 8,000 from Dreams store and it’s king size, hope this info is helpful

We bought ours from Dreams about 9 months ago, I wish I’d bought one years ago.
DH has various medical issues the bed allows him to have his legs raised comfortably.
I like to sleep with my head raised.
Great for reading in bed too!

As you say your Dh has very poor health, I’d ask an OT about suitable beds for his conditions before splashing out. I was going to get one for my mum but it transpired that what she actually needed was a hospital-style bed. HTH.

I have recently acquired on from Opera beds. Nights have become much more comfortable.

I can highly recommend a company called Willowbrook. They are based in the midlands but cover the whole country. They do adjustable beds and chairs and every one is made to the customers own specifications, size and colour etc.

They aren’t the cheapest around but we had a bed from them years ago and it’s been wonderful. Unfortunately we had to leave it in our house when we moved into our bungalow because it wouldn’t fit in.

I have one of the cheapest available ones from Argos. It is fabulous.

I treated myself to an adjustable bed for my 70th birthday, nearly 15 years ago. Laybrook. I wanted a double size (4;6"), with some storage. It has been wonderful. Have a drawer underneath each side, one I use for bedding and one for nighties, etc.
In recent years I do not know what I would have done without this. I can sleep with the head up a little which helps with my breathing problems. Can sit up fully for reading or doing puzzles, No built-in tv, but have one on a chest of drawers opposite the bed. Only problem was finding a suitable light which worked in it various conditions, but that has now long been solved with Alexa controlling my overhead bedroom light.
Bringing both top and bottom high up, makes it very easy to change bottom fitted sheet.
Back in early 2011, think it cost me two grand, men came and built it in my room. Was a little concerned when I moved house, and did have to pay an additional amount for appropriate technician to deal with the bed. Mind you, carpet layers dealt with it with their normal people and no extra charge AND they put it back together better!!!
I find sleeping in a non-adjustable bed now in a hotel, etc really uncomfortabl.e

I would go to a mobility shop and try the ones on display that way you will get the correct one you need.

My sister in law's dad has an electric adjustable bed he tried several ones in the shop to get the best one for him . Not cheap but he's never sleep so well. He has COPD and has cut the number of chest infections he gets

We have just had one built into our existing heavy wooden bed frame. Hemiplegic husband can now sit himself up in bed which helps getting him up in the morning. I can sit myself up when he is still asleep to check GN in the mornings!

Definitely lots of advice and suggestions. Will definitely be doing some research. As you say these things are very expensive so don’t want any costly mistakes.

Sankev as with purchasing anything like beds, sofas, armchairs - you really need to try them out.

Those companies that bring things to your own home, have a very limited choice, and are usually excessively expensive.

All good bedding shops have a few adjustable beds, and many of the companies have special shops displaying many of their products, for you to sit on, lie down on, etc. etc.

If you are looking for a bed for two of you, then each half can have its own separate, different mattress.

Do not rush into purchase, take your time trying them out and finding out what price you can get anyone trying to sell you one to come in at.

We bought one due to husband's disability. Personally I think it was a waste of money and old bed was more comfortable but he likes being able to have his legs raised, some blocks under the bed used to do that, and it helps him sit up

Thanks Franbern I definitely won’t be rushing into it. I know what you mean. It’s so tempting to just shop online and get one delivered without the hassle. But such an expensive and important item needs to be just right. I’m guilty of jumping in without researching in the past and made some expensive mistakes. That’s the problem with online and next day delivery it’s sometimes just too easy to spend lots of money without really checking. Thanks for your perspective theworriedwell.
