That sounds really scary
Iam. Hope you are on the mend now.
I thought I was a little better yesterday but had very little sleep last night and although I felt OK first thing, by lunchtime I was completely wiped out and all my symptoms had returned.
This virus is a real b**ger!

Current virus
(112 Posts)I came come down with what I think is a virus that I have heard is currently‘On-The-Go’. That was Monday this week so early days yet.
How have GN’s coped with this? I know it sounds trivial with what I see some posting on here are living with but I’m usually pretty healthy and ‘fair scunnered’ at catching this. Am 71 live alone but my sister is nearby and brought me fresh milk today. I’m usually reasonably active and healthy.
Things were bad in the Tuesday as I attended a hospital appointment long planned. At this stage just felt had upset tum and mild headache.
Walking uphill back to car I had to stop 3 times in a short period and thought I would collapse. Got to car though and made it home ok. I felt quite safe once seated and when driving
Symptoms are fatigue, dizziness/lightheadedness on exertion ie climbing the stairs, muscle aches, headaches,( not as bad as in first 24 hours ), stomach upset at whatever I try to eat but have tried to keep to plain food , toast ( I did add some butter as it was my first food in 36 hours). A few spoonfuls of home made lentil soup, quarter of unbuttered cinnamon bagel. Everything seems to upset my stomach tho doesn’t cause any V or D.
I realise I need to eat something. I’m drinking very dilute blackcurrant juice and have managed tea with milk. The thing is it all makes me feel ‘like I have a tummy upset’. Any suggestions or advice gratefully received.
I’ve tried the NHS app but nothing seems to fit. You only have to choose one symptom and mine cover more than one. And I didn’t think I was bad enough to call 111.
This will probably go in time . Just needed some food/coping advice as am sure I’m not the only one who has had similar or is feeling like this now.
I had something similar a few days ago. Normal day, felt fine. After our evening meal I felt a bit strange when sitting on sofa. Just odd. Went outside to water plants and felt lightheaded. Then I got tingling up back of head.
Went to the loo, awful squits and sick feeling. I was so glad when I was violently sick because I felt a lot better.
I do think testing, or the absence of it, is at the root of the problem.
Either Covid is no worse than flu or a bad cold - and I think we would mostly disagree with that - or we have to know where it has struck.
So many people I have heard say they returned from a holiday/cruise/visit to family with the symptoms we have read upthread.
Did they test? Oh no !
So how do they know they haven’t shared the lurgy along with the lurve ?
A pack of 5 tests from Amazon is about a fiver, surely it makes sense to be in possession of the facts? Knowledge is power and either we reconcile ourselves to waves of potential Covid misery or we go back to testing and if not exactly isolating, at least keeping clear of the elderly, vulnerable , hospitals etc
So pleased it was not a stroke Iam - but I know how awful; it is coping alone when you feel really rubbish.
Saw the doc today and she thinks mine is viral, but also concerned about side effects of some of my meds so she has taken me off 3 of them for a week at least, or till I feel better, then to reintroduce one at a time to see if we can sort out what is going on.
It feels too early in the year to have all this bug overload going on.
Glad it wasn't anything serious IAM but a frightening experience. I felt frightened when my virus first struck.
I really did wonder what was happening.
I've tested negative for COVID today.
Still tired but I've not felt as ill since late afternoon. But definitely not over this virus yet.
I think we have maybe got a bit fixated on Covid. People were ill like this before we had even heard of Covid. I remember when most people got a really nasty cold - nose bunged up for days, streaming eyes, etc. - at least once a year.
Some people on here have tested positive for Covid, others have tested and proved negative. It doesn't really matter what you call it - whatever bug you have it is probably, at least to some degree, infectious and, although it would probably be advisable not to get too close to people and to maintain good hygiene, I don't think it is realistic to go into Covid mode and isolate for days on end. We can't always avoid illness but just try and keep properly hydrated and have plenty of rest - and then just hope for the best that it soon goes away.
I hope everyone who is feeling ill at the moment soon feels better. I don't feel 100% but things have improved.
This happened to hubby and self last summer. Kids and pals were away, so we were having a quiet time, apart from pet feeding. Next thing we were both knocked off our feet with fever, bone-weariness etc.
It suddenly dawned on me that the last time I felt like that was when I tested positive in the actual pandemic.
Got the tests out and sure enough…
If its any help, Covid tests are available from Amazon.
Last winter a box of tests was delivered from my GP along with my regular medication.
I don’t think anyone is fixated on covid but seeing as there are tests for this, unavailable for other viruses, is handy to know if you’ve got it so that you can stay away from people for a few days, especially those with severe health problems, and my DH is in that category. Of course flu and sone other viruses are just as dangerous but we can’t test for those and also most other viruses only become contagious when you display symptoms whereas with covid it is contagious whether you have started to show symptoms or not, so wise to test if you have come into contact with someone who then became ill with it or had a covid type illness.
In hospitals covid still kills vulnerable patients and when those vulnerable patients become vulnerable outpatients people should still be careful around them with any illness.

I tested positive for Covid 10 days ago - I know “nobody tests” any more but I was due for day surgery and wisely did the test which came up positive with a bang! So of course I cancelled.
Anyway, LSS my insides have been all over the place since, plus the light headedness, headaches and incredible weakness.
I’d assumed this was all connected and I’m not enjoying it as I am rarely, if ever, ill. I was also awake for hours last night with (I assume) reflux barely able to even swallow water. Not a happy bunny. I blame a ready meal sausage and herb casserole - never again.
Food?
I’m hungry but have no appetite and am getting by with coffee flavoured slim-fast ready mixed shakes!
Will I have lost any weight when this is over? I doubt it!
I tested positive on the 3rd. I had been feeling really weird, weak, dizzy, slight temperature, nausea, pressure headache, and a sore throat. I used an old test and swabbed the sore part of the back of my mouth and then a quick poke up each nostril. The test went instantly positive, so at least we know they still work. So then I warned everyone I had been near, found one friend had also become sick, I saw her the day before. I can't trace the source back to any event. We're currently in France so at least the weather is nice.
I recommend taking a test. Knowledge is power.

I had a couple in hand, Aldom, dated to expire next month. Do they lose their capacity to detect Covid as the nearly reach the expiry date? Just a thought.
I hope you feel better soon, Aldom, and everyone not feeling well.
I think they still work as long as there is still liquid in the phial. My 2022 one worked fine the other day and showed positive with the proper control line. So don't bin them.

Absolute balderdash. COVID is more like Influenza which you could reasonably expect to catch maybe 5 times in your life. COVID is often a yearly experience. I know young people with kids in school who have had it 6 or 7 times now. The long term damage done to our health is as yet unknown. But the economy......
advisable not to get too close to people and to maintain good hygiene, I don't think it is realistic to go into Covid mode and isolate for days on end
I don’t think anybody is talking about isolating for days on end although frankly I didn’t want to see anybody or for anybody to see me
But by identifying Covid we can at least protect the more vulnerable if not exactly isolating, but at least keeping clear of the elderly, vulnerable , hospitals etc.
Final PS -one D and SIL I was on holiday in France with, went down last week apparently - clearly caught it from me -but have recovered quickly. It reinforces my conviction that us oldies don't necessarily bounce back from it and struggling on “bravely” is possibly not only bad for our own health but also that of others.
Just test! And at least you know where you are.
As I said a fiver from Amazon for 5 or 6.
Just out of interest are you still getting 6 monthly Covid vaccinations in the UK?
Yesterday in the chemist having my BP checked I met one of our parishioners .
He asked me why I didn't go to church last Sunday and then , said that I should have attended .
It was another occasion when I felt totally exasperated and frankly - not believed .
Having endless chest infections has compromised my immune system and I often feel extremely unwell .
I did last Sunday .
My head ,ears and entire body ached .My throat was scratchy and my voice croaky .
I had a dry cough .
My stomach was upset - constipation followed by diarrhoea .
My nose bleed copiously.
I just wanted to sit quietly and doze in front of the TV . And that's what I did .
With vitamin c , zinc , echinacea and drinking lots of fresh chicken soup -it has passed off .
One of my neighbours has had similar bouts of illness and friends are complaining about feeling really off as if they have the flu .
Whatever this bug is - it's insidious .
I'm hoping that it becomes history and that everyone will get better .
I’m in the test for Covid group, I did yesterday, negative thankfully. The NHS site on heavy viral load indicates this kind of virus can mimic stroke symptoms which led to my blue light ambulance journey.
It also indicates these viruses can allow previous like Covid symptoms to recur. I’ve no chest infection but yesterday, I walked to open the door to a friend who brought bread n milk - I was so breathless, same as when I had Covid
Thanks all of you for your kind words. This thread is a little reassuring, so many of us with such similar symptoms . I’m feeling more myself but haven’t left the house since coming home on Monday
Same symptoms, mine lasted 6 weeks still getting hot flushes and I'm well past Menopause. I was exhausted lost interest in everything and became rather depressed through it.
Sleeping for 1/2 hours at a time and when I caught up with lack of sleep I slept for 15 hours. Now back to normal and happy if I get 4 hours solid sleep. Try and drink fluids and eat apples either grated or sliced.
We have just made appointments for flu & covid jabs. Next month at our health centre.
My sister in Newcastle and myself in Manchester both suffering from the same symptoms as reported here and neither of us COVID positive using in date testing kits
UKHSA data shows slight COVID uptick but still at very low levels. No mention in any data still published of any newly defined circulating infection but unfortunately routine testing seems to have diminished. We'll just have to soldier on and treat ourselves symptomatically.
IOMGran that's interesting because my slightly out of date test kit didn't register anything in spite of having liquid in the test tube.
Apparently you have to be 75 or over to be eligible for the Covid jab this time..
Or have health conditions that mean you’re vulnerable
Sorry, posted quickly. A friend who works in the nhs told me it’s possible to buy an immunisation, cost just under £100
That seems a lot to me but I know nothing about the cost of immunisations.
Just checking in to say that I had a good day yesterday.
On the whole my symptoms have cleared up and I feel more comfortable. Still rather tired but very thankful to not be feeling ill.
Wishing everyone a speedy recovery.

Same here, believe it was Covid but didn’t even consider going to GP as they’re not going to prescribe anything ( unless it became life threatening) and seemingly want to avoid the word “Covid”. I remember years ago when people had a cold and they’d constantly say “stay back I’ve got a bad flu” or “I’m not visiting as I don’t want to give it to you”.. so I just revert back to that routine, rest, fluids and eat little and often.
