I am not eligible for a Covid booster this Autumn with the NHS
I am not old enough!
I think I will pay to have one as I think it is worthwhile.
What would you do if you are in my position?

At least that has solved my dilemma I was considering after getting every covid jab up to date if to get one this year now I am not old enough so that is enough for me

I’m 70 and have been offered my Covid booster through the NHS booked through the NHS app with no mention of any charges. I’m not immunosuppressed.

I'm also 70 and was offered a Covid jab through the NHS app (same as last year). I queried it with the GP pharmacist because it seemed to me that I didn't fit any of the criteria. I'm T2 diabetic, have had a heart attack, two different cancers and have had radiotherapy, but still not eligible. Apparently, the reason I'm eligible is because I have a low platelet count and low white blood cells, which affect my immunity.

If you're not sure, ring up the provider (there should be a number somewhere) and ask.

We have been offered our flu jabs, and if we want covid jab,to ask for it on the day. We will be having both, we have had covid once, probably caught in crowded trams in Amsterdam! We have had every jab offered, medics in our family think that it's the sensible thing to do. We are 77 and 87.

Have they cut the number of people the covid booster is offered to as there is less risk now, due to less covid in circulation? I hope it is not just to save money. I did not know until this thread that I am no longer eligible.
I felt quite unwell with covid last year and would not wish to feel any worse as can no longer have a booster.

I imagine is a cost cutting exercise. My DH had pneumonia and sepsis when admitted to hospital with a stroke and will be in and out of hospital for a heart op and poss brain surgery until the NY so if he gets covid in hospital I am really worried because most deaths from covid occur in hospitals and he has been through so much.
But he is only 74 and imagine there will be countless others like him younger than 75.

Boots have said that they probably won’t have the covid vaccine when we have our flu jabs next month sad.

Allsorts Wed 10-Sept-25 07:59:38

I will continue with flue jab but not Covid.

TillyTrotter Wed 10-Sept-25 08:04:16

The same as you narg. It is booked for next month - £85.

Grantanow Wed 10-Sept-25 08:34:35

I shall certainly have the next Covid vaccination. I've had them all so far with no problems.

Are people still having this jab?
I never had it and wouldn’t. We are exposed to enough toxicity in everyday life, without injecting it into our bloodstream.

I tend to agree with this though Covid does scare me.

annodomini Wed 10-Sept-25 09:52:42

I was sent the notification about a month ago and was able there and then to book my vax on October 18th. I'm very grateful to the NHS for the huge number of immunisations I've had over the years and to my parents who ensured I had them even before the NHS came into existence.

Juniper1 Wed 10-Sept-25 13:46:01

It’s not toxic. It’s a vaccine. Vaccines save millions of lives every year

Paperbackwriter Wed 10-Sept-25 14:01:57

I only had a booster back in early June. Not sure I'll need another or is it a different strain? Got my flu one booked for October so I'll try and remember to ask.

Bravo

Milliedog Wed 10-Sept-25 14:03:20

I'm coeliac @mrsmeldrew so would probably be called. I'd love to have the Covid vaccination as I have Long Covid and don't want to risk catching Covid again and making everything worse. But the last 2 vaccinations caused my heart rate to go straight down to 60 and then up to 90+ for a few minutes. My doctor agrees I shouldn't have further vaccinations.

Menopauselbitch Wed 10-Sept-25 14:03:54

But some lungwort from British Supplements. Read the reviews

Babamaman Wed 10-Sept-25 14:08:03

I am, but there aren’t any vaccines in surgeries yet! So I have been told by my surgery!
Get your flu jab first, is my personal opinion - flu is horrendous, then if you feel strongly enough get the covid

Sadie5803 Wed 10-Sept-25 14:11:05

Its a no from me, personal choice, covid is another word for flu, but each to their own,
If you want it have it, but dont judge others for not having it

LottieLass Wed 10-Sept-25 14:23:28

I hadn't realised that I could not get a COVID Booster on the NHS until I'm 75. My GP told me when we discussed my recent blood tests. As I was a bit preoccupied by the news that I had high cholesterol and low iron I forgot about Covid. I wish I had paid more attention as I now have to hate I assume is the new variant and am feeling really unwell. This started on Saturday and here we are at Wednesday and it seems to be getting worse each day. Please do get the vaccination of you can as a I wouldn't wish this on my worse enemy.

Casdon Wed 10-Sept-25 14:26:05

Influenza virus and corona virus are different viruses Sadie5803, so coronavirus is not a form of flu.

Greenfinch Wed 10-Sept-25 14:33:05

I heard yesterday from my surgery and was able to book the flu and covid jabs on one of two dates. I was able to select the time and which nurse I wanted to do it. I chose the phlebotomist as I have encountered her many times.

Jojo1950 Wed 10-Sept-25 14:53:22

Look after yourself. I quite recently had Covid and ended up in hospital for a while. Not well at all. Horrible!

AuntieE Wed 10-Sept-25 15:06:54

It will depend entirely on how far I have to travel to have the vaccinations.

Last time, I had to take a train, wait and hour for a bus, then walk over a kilometre, and of course the journey home took at least twice as long.

I honestly do not think it is worth that kind of hassle to avoid something that I am not very likely to catch.

FranP Wed 10-Sept-25 15:40:00

I used to get them until they upped the age.

DH gets because of his diabetes, but it was me who ended up struggling to breathe (even after the jab) and 15 days isolation.

Seems a bit silly that I cannot get when we share a bed, so I could pass it on.

Same here, MissChateline. DH & I are both under 75 and not considered vulnerable, but we have both been offered flu and Covid jabs through NHS app. Is it an area thing?
