Penicillan reaction

Feeling pretty fed up with my aged body. For past few weeks have been on diffeent anti-biotics, started when I was taken into hospital with acute infection.

After I came out, they continued for first week, then ceased. within a few days for the first time in six years I started a UTI, first ab's given for this were no good, and I was changed to a different one. Completed course and with a couple of days discomfort on my back made me look into mirrors where I saw nasty large, very red boil.

Photo sent to GP who confirmed it was infected and put me on week long course of Penicillan = four a day

Now I do understand the need to complete ab courses, but I have really struggled with this. A hour or two after taking one of these, I was unable to keep my eyes open and would fall asleep wherever I was and whatever I was doing. Then, I felt disorientated, got my days muddles up, started making silly errors when doing normal things. Still have no idea where I put my two lunchtime egg cups and small rubbish plate when I cleared away a few nights ago, My bowels were also upset, and as an ostomist this is always a cause for concern. ALso each morning had the most dreadful nausea - just as I had when pregnant fifty plus years ago. And all the time I just felt very unwell.

I struggled through nearly six days, but have given up now leaving four of the 28tablets untaken. Last one of these was last night. Still felt and looked unwell this morning, but had my normal mid-day rest and woken up feeling nearly beck to normal

Obviously, I am allergic to these tablets, not enough to kill me, but enough to make me pretty poorly. Never before had any such allergy (not sure if I have ever been given these tablets previously). Cannot wait now for them to completely clear my system and I can start to feel so much better. Must say, have felt so bad these last few days, I really began to think my time was up.

I always read the sheet that goes with any new medication, except for nausea, none of the rest was mentioned.

The boil is no longer infected and hopefulyl wil clear itself away
