We also have 3 Turkish barbers. I feel sorry for the 2 barbers that have been here for years.

We have one such nail bar in our small local shopping area. It is opposite a Costa and next to a florist. On more than one occasion I’ve been in to Costa and the fumes coming from the nail bar are dreadful. No wonder if they use inferior products.

Apparently nail bars are places of people trafficking, not all, obviously but quite a number

Also as money laundering outfits just like Turkish barbers.

Blimey………..we must have the cleanest town in the county! Three Turkish barbers all on one road!

I was too busy examining my own nails and thinking I need to visit a nail bar!!

Many are run by Organised Crime Groups and used by human traffickers and for money laundering, and the staff are slaves.

Choose a reputable one or one attached to a known hair or beauty salon.

Having hair or nails done in a salon used to be viewed as a luxury or a treat.
With the constant escalation of food prices I'm surprised people with families can afford this.

I think a lot of younger women view long talons and coffee out as part of the basics of life.🤔

Chatting could be hindered by the combination of a) a language barrier and b) wearing a mask.

Posted too soon! There are a couple in my local town centre and the workers are women, but there are always men hanging around any time I've passed. And they are definitely not getting their nails done!

DD went to a lovely nail and massage salon in our town. She was treated by the salon owner and she said everyone was welcoming and chatty. She has booked a second appointment for what, in her case, was a pedicure not a manicure.

It is like anything else, there are good salons and poor exploitive ones. if you use one just choose one you would want to return to.

Products which can be dangerous GG to the user and the customer which is why those nail bars are best avoided.

If the nail technicians are wearing masks, I guess you mean the Vietnamese or Chinese nail bars.

They wear masks as they use inferior products which contain suspect chemicals which are not found in products used in a respectable salon.

having their nails done a priority to what faringdon?

Casdon Tue 07-Oct-25 11:08:01

Why are the technicians unable to have a conversation with the customer farington59, in my local nail bar it’s like the hairdressers, they chat to you as they work?

I have recently joined a walking group and visit a few towns in our county.
On each high street there are nail bars and they are always busy. It seems that in these days of rising prices people are making having their nails done a priority.
But I really feel for the workers in there. Wearing a mask all day ( as a protection against chemicals apparently), sat in a repetitive hunched position. Unable to have a conversation with the customer, which would actually improve their English and make their day more enjoyable.

But there again I'm thinking perhaps the nail bar owners don't want the workers to discuss their working day??
Sadly these premises don't seem to have a policy of diversity for employing people either. Don't think anyone local would stand a chance of being employed there

Just an observation from someone who has worked in the hairdressing trade and know how important good customer service is.
