My Diabetic Consultant started me on Wegovy tablets and then Mounjaro just over a year ago . I was size 22 and weighed 16 stones and was very unhappy . I was on two diabetic medications plus a large dose of insulin .
Since starting Mounjaro I have lost 4 and a half stones and came off insulin completely from the beginning.
I am now 11 and a half stone and size 14 and feel so much better . I was quite depressed and had no interest in clothes .
I have bought a whole new summer and winter wardrobe this past year .
I’m 72 and a widow . I’m much happier .

I’d be wary if I already had renal issues. There are some studies that show weight loss drugs could cause harm to kidneys. I’d consult a GP before embarking on the injections.

When you fill in the form it asks for your gps name and address. And there’s a long list of medical conditions for which the jabs shouldn’t be used .

My dh has been on mounjaro for 6 months and has lost 3 stone . He was overweight and had health issues which were not helped with weight gain. Arthritis in his knees , back problems , high bp and high cholesterol . He was also borderline diabetic. His knees and back pain have gone . Blood sugar levels are good as is cholesterol and bp. He can walk the dog without getting out of breath. Do hills .And his beer belly has gone .
He’s slowly stopping the jabs and has changed his diet. He was a snacker and would buy sweets , chocolate, crisps etc at the petrol station because I don’t buy them. I think this is called food noise and it’s now stopped .
I have 4 girl friends also on the jabs and have lost at least 2-3 stone each . Which is a bit galling when I’ve always watched my weight and diet and exercise to lose the weight. .

DDiL has lost 5 stone since last summer. She looks amazing, but now has gallstone issues. I don’t like to ask if she’s taking anything.

Of course weight loss injections (bought privately for that purpose) aren’t available to 75year olds or older.

I know this hasn't been commented on for a while. I take Gabapentin for my restless legs which are caused by my impaired renal function.
Sadly, the average weight gain with Gabapentin is 2 stone 11 lbs, and I have put on at least that amount.

I have never been as heavy as this in my life (I am 73). I want to try it as I think it is the only sensible solution for me to lose the extra weight.

I have had to buy bigger clothes and it is just making me miserable.

With New Year, seriously thinking about restarting weight loss jabs but instead of Mounjaro switching to Wegovy.

Lots of med advice on doing that but to learn from a real world first hand experience would be most helpful.

(Don't need any referral or discount codes - in fact I've got several of those to share and happy to DM them).

Thx

I know several interestingly only ladies on this. Mostly they are having the same as op wonderful results and the energy and lust for life is more encouraging than expected. With running and exercising being relished.

I think this stuff sounds great provided it does you no harm.
I don't get the critical you are a nogoodnik because you didn't do it "the hard way" (i.e. dieting).
I've always had to watch my weight myself and wonder whether people who are critical are so because they've never had any difficulties with their own weight.
Weight loss, where it is necessary, is not only a morale booster but also a massive help for medical conditions which otherwise might worsen. The positive impact for the NHS is a massive plus.
Obviously there is a regain risk with a drug that fundamentally is an appetite restricter but as foxie48 points out there are ways to maintain the loss.
More power to their elbows say I.

My GD’s friend has lost 6 stone.
She looks fantastic and is so fit and full of energy.
She is a tall girl and never looked as heavy as she was but now she is stunning.
I am very interested to see how she continues now she is off it.

I met up with a good friend who has struggled with losing weight for all the time I've known her. She's a fit active person but her job is home based and stressful. She's tried pretty much every way of losing weight but has never managed to lose more than a stone before it's gone back on again. She started using a low dose of mountjaro in the Spring and has lost 20 kg, looks amazing, is full of energy and has had no side effects. I'm posting because I remember the last time this subject came up there were some people who were considering using it so I thought I'd share this story. She's at her ideal weight and is using the 5/2 diet to keep her weight steady so hopefully she'll maintain this weight for the future.
