Corrected - 12 hours of continual, excruciating pain

Hi, I have Meralgia Paresthetica in my left thigh. Unbelievably painful the first time (a 12 continual pain of electric spasms) it happened. It was very scary as I didn't know what it was, and it was two days before a flight. I've just been prescribed Gabapentin and had bloods taken. MSK referral has been completed too.

I had nerves affected by herniated disc.
Ortho consultant advised keep mobile- stretch out spine and Pilates.

Did the Dr say it could be sciatica rather than a trapped nerve?

Especially if it's in your leg too. Any tingling or numbness?

Thank you everyone. I have seen a dr and physio is booked. I will try what you have all advised in the meantime. Anything to ease the pain

I feel for him - Applying an ice pack helped me - assuming the nerve is trapped due to physical trauma the ice will relieve any swelling. Heat also helped further down the line. What works for one doesn't necessarily work for someone else. I found a TENS machine useful, again many don't.

i would see your doctor. DH had a trapped nerve in his shoulder. He ended up needing an MRI scan and then three steroid jabs given while being xrayed to make sure they went into precisely the right place. before that he was on gabapentin to deal with the pain.

I would make an appointment to see a physio who could prescribe exercises to release the nerve. I’m the meantime take regular paracetamol. Keep mobile but nothing too strenuous. You could also try looking on YouTube for exercises.
