My stepson's dog takes Youmove supplements which contain chondroitin and glucosamine and he is definitely more mobile so I've been thinking about taking the human version myself. I currently take turmeric, Vitamin D and calcium which my GP approves of.
Riaflex Joint Plus Pro contains significantly higher amounts of useful ingredients per dose than any of the YuMove range, I’d recommend it for dogs.

Twirler 77 with reference to green lipped muscle extract. My sister in law mentioned that she found it really good When I mentioned it to my physio after my two hip replacement. She said many of her patients swore by it. I also found it helpful. The people version is caller Pernaton. I bought it on line but apparently it is available at Holland and Barret Makes the area applied to very cold
It was recommended by an orthopaedic consultant University of Cambridge Queens’s Veterinary College for my friend’s dog, over any other widely used products. My old spaniel and I take it in capsule form. I didn’t know there was version for topical application.

I was diagnosed with arthritis in my left knee about 30 years ago. At some point I started taking Glucosamine and Chrondoitin, later adding marine collagen and still do.
Until last year I was pain free. So I think they have helped keep it at bay, but age has caught up with me and arthritis now comes and goes in various joints, not too painful most of the time.
I have joint issues and I find if I stop taking glucosamine I get pain but I think it’s all very individual
Have you tried FlexiSEQ? A friend of mine with bad arthritis in her hands swears by it. I tried it for a painful knee joint and it seemed to work.

Saw physio today, he's given me some exercises and advice and I'm to see him in two months and if no improvement he will refer me for steroids injection in my hand.
So, I’ve just found, Amazon I think, and had delivered supplements which have both you’ve mention plus Vit C and turmeric! Going to start today and I’ll try and remember to let you know in one month.
I had a total reverse shoulder replacement. At the time I was in intense pain, the like of which I have never known before (including childbirth!). Now I do ache occasionally but am finding the swimming is helping greatly. I am also hoping it will help with cardiac issues as I have high blood pressure and left bundle branch block.. arthritis is horrible,I could not wish it on my worst enemy.
I tried both of them after the GP said some people find them helpful.
They didn’t help me and my surgeon pointed out that a hip replacement is the only answer to a joint badly affected by osteoarthritis.
I had my replacement five months after seeing the surgeon and, four years on, I haven’t looked back!
To add, I have been making and taking turmeric golden paste for over 10 years, since my last dog tore his cruciate ligament, my spaniel and I always have it twice daily but I’m not sure it makes a difference to my arthritis.
The vet school recommended Omega-3 fatty acids and green lipped mussel extracts for a friend’s severely arthritic dog, saying they have demonstrated effectiveness in managing arthritis, whereas with glucosamine, chondroitin sulfate, collagen and hyaluronic acid there is insufficient scientific evidence to support their efficacy.
I then started my occasionally stiff old spaniel on a combined joint supplement containing a high level of green-lipped mussel (Riaflex, which has higher levels of everything than any YuMove products), and she was noticeably more agile. Then I added a separate green-lipped mussel tablet, and she is galloping everywhere in a way she hasn’t moved for a good couple of years.
That’s enough evidence for me to try the GLM myself as I have osteoarthritis in my hip, it’s only been two weeks but I’m needing my prescription painkillers only twice a day instead of four times.
I used to have bad hip pain but after taking these supplements it eased and I have rarely had even mild hip pain since. Recently I stopped taking them in case they were causing irritation in my bladder which was getting me up at night. After a month no improvement in the bladder sensitivity but pain started in my left knee so I've restarted the tablets.
My son is a consultant orthopaedic surgeon and his view is that there is no clinical evidence in support of them but lots of anecdotal reports in favour. His view is that as there's no known harm from them and if they seem to work for you, carry on. I buy mine from Sainsbury's and take one daily.
That's encouraging Sallywally1. What king of replacement did you have? I had a reverse replacement last November and have lost the tendons on the top so I'm struggling to get my arm up high.
I go swimming five times a week and with the aid of a float on the operated shoulder I can do 10 lengths! I used to do 50 (-, but swimming definitely helps. Six months ago I could nit even dress myself! I might try the supplements though and definitely try turmeric. Thanks
I've found Turmeric to be very good. If you try the glucosamine look for one with green lipped mussel which I also found really good. Have you kept up with the swimming?
I tried them but found no difference. Turmeric on the other hand does help me, I noticed a real and unhelpful change when I needed to stop it before surgery. We’re all different for sure.
Like winterwhite I take both and I'm not sure if they help but I'm usually pain free, except for the odd flare up, and the current Sciatica. So I'd try them. If you look online there are some good exercises for fingers and hands to help keep movement.

I’m sure this has been raised before, but does anyone have any experience of these substances working for osteoarthritis. I now seem to have it in my right hand, which is painful and misshapen. I cannot take ibuprofen etc as my gp says they are not advised if, like me, you have hypertension. As I also have a painful shoulder on the other side from a shoulder replacement, I am a little worried! I am 70 if that’s relevant
I had to check the name in case I'd written it and forgotten. I've got the right hand left shoulder issue exactly the same. I'm seeing a physio at local hospital on Friday so if he says anything useful I will post it.
I don't take supplements but I do wear a thumb spica on my right hand which does help.
I took them for a couple of years but stopped because they appeared to do zilch for me.
I’ve been taking them for many years after severe hip and knee pain. I am relatively pain free - never need pain killers - but feel I daren’t stop taking them.
