I have what I've been told is a .5 bunion, so just the beginnings of one. Got one of those plasticiney toe separators from chiropodist and I'm now looking for wide fitting shoes. Hotter have been recommended but I don't like those because the insoles get sweaty. Do people have any other ideas?

Hi Flutterby345 — late to the party but I wanted to add my opinion too!
Sole Bliss do great shoes for bunions. There's a little stretch panel for bunions which you can't see from the outside but is very comfortable inside. The shoes are generally quite wide too. Would recommend smile

Very sorry for all you ladies who have bunions. I had heard of bunions but never saw one until a couple of years ago. A lady I know was at an event and had some nice sandals on but there was a massive bulge hanging out of the side of the straps. I mean massive! She explained what it was and said she has to buy sandals which allow her bunions to hang out and boots are a nightmare.

I read an article about Sole Bliss shoes/trainers/boots etc which are great for bunions. Worn by Queen Camilla, Joanna Lumley, Jenny Murray and loads of very famous ladies.

I buy from Pavers! I have small but wide feet, and finding good comfortable shoes is a nightmare! I take a size 2. There are shops, as well as online options, but like all things, shops are fewer in number than they used to be.

I like my Hotter Mary Jane style that I can wear without socks as they have leather insoles.

Must say I’ve tended to avoid Hotter as too ‘old lady-ish’, but the ankle boots (Murmur) I bought over 18 months ago are positively the most comfortable footwear I’ve ever had. I’ve worn them endlessly for walking, shopping, etc. and they’re still fine.
And IMO this particular style doesn’t really look old-ladyish at all, though IMO many of theirs do.
My right foot is wider than my left, not entirely down to a not too bad bunion, so I ordered the wide (not extra wide) fitting. V

My Mum's big toe now crosses over her next toe :-( I got these for her after her Hotter ones gave her a pressure blister. She finds them much more comfortable and easy to put on.

Hi, Podiatrist here -

The advice I always give is to look for features, not names. As long as a shoe has those features, you should be accommodated well.

For bunions particularly, look for a toe box that is wide and deep. Examples can be found I this catalogue - www.widerfitshoes.co.uk/?utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=13221362851&utm_term=wider%20fit%20shoes%20uk&gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=13221362851&gbraid=0AAAAAD-TG6-2plakMpppEgrvb2mxB82Ds&gclid=Cj0KCQjws83OBhD4ARIsACblj18GxgKkiaXs9Ulnzf8QhR9KOx62bccSfVuVQ4_AnEcFlv2XaMsCmEgaAizREALw_wcB

You don't have to buy from here but they have a measuring tool in the back of the brochure that allows you to check your shoe size and circumference, which is important for bunions. Bear in mind that your shoe size will change over time as well.

A lot of my patients also report that they like Fitville shoes - thefitville.uk/?utm_source=Google&utm_medium=ads&utm_campaign=search&utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=Sales-Search-Brand-roas800&gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=13270547266&gbraid=0AAAAABIIuj2S149LBuPDAoMQlrUOIxdii&gclid=Cj0KCQjws83OBhD4ARIsACblj1-bKhEDArHiG_Ie0KjR6v704q0wWStSxX0CRs7cjGMTAmF4j_QVcskaAm4wEALw_wcB

Good luck with your search!

Hobibear wide toe barefoot shoes are the most comfortable footwear for me. They have a very wide toe box.

Fitflop shoes are wider fitting and Sketchers are very comfortable.
I had both bunions done 14 years ago, one of them is starting to develop again.
I usually wear Fitflops, Sketchers or trainers. Nothing with heels or pinto toes so I have no idea why one foot is ok but the other one isn’t.

I’m an ex chiropodist and always tell people that Pavers has I nice selection of wide fit shoes
Love the pink plasterciney thing….they really are useful

I bought some wide fit trainers and they were not wide at all. I took them back to the shop and bought some Skechers wide fit instead and they were a much better fit.

I have Cosy Feet for the wide toe box and they’re good for me. Skechers do some of there’s in extra wide.

Both my feet have had surgery for bunions, hammer toes and osteoarthritis. I wear Gabor shoes and some Clark wide fit for everyday and Skechers for walking and golf.

How bad were your hammer toes that you had surgery? I was told that I would have mine operated on when my feet stopped growing at about 16. I am 70 and still waiting!

Have a look at Sole Bliss. Expensive, but really, really good. I had a bunion done in 2010 and I have tailors bunions on both feet. Sole Bliss really help.

Sargasso & grey are shoes made for bunions, expensive but extremely comfortable.

I’ve found DB wider fit shoes 01933 311 077 excellent, especially when they have a sale. They have shoes up to 8E wide. Although they are online, you can try and return easily. Their advisors seem good too. www.widerfitshoes.co.uk

Thanks all. Good suggestions here. I seem to remember V Beckham has bunions. I bet she wears Calla! Still.researching.

I also have bunions on both feet. Hotter used to be a good choice for me but either the shoes have changed or my feet have! Paver shoes are now my first choice.

mum2three Wed 01-Apr-26 10:25:11

Canvas shoes are flexible, so I personally find these the most comfortable. I have bunions on both feet, so it's a struggle. I pad mine with padded plasters but they still hurt. Padded socks help too, I wear the bamboo ones. Winter boots with a furry lining are a great help, as there is no friction.

MiniMoon Wed 01-Apr-26 10:13:25

I have a tailor's bunion on my left foot. All my regular shoes and boots are now uncomfortable. I have taken to wearing barefoot shoes. I recently bought a pair of Hobibear trainers which are really comfortable. Unlike most barefoot shoes in which you can feel every pebble under your feet these have a little cushioning. I like the wide toe box, my bunionette doesn't rub in them.

Skechers are good
