Best Fabric for Sensitive Skin

Silk is very gentle.

Silk has a low absorbency and can cause buildup on the skin. Bamboo or cotton are my best options and I am hoping to hear opinions from people who wear either of these.

I have silk pillows cases, and even if my face or hair is greasy at times, they never soak up any moisture.

Yes, any natural fibres. There are so many chemicals in synthetic fibres that can cause irritation to the skin, some of these chemicals can be even cancer inducing. The first step for me was to find out why I had suddenly become allergic to certain things. You could do this with an intolerance test. I now wear only only cotton, linen and in winter 100% wool. I wash in goats milk soap only and I use organic cosmetics. My skin now is as soft as a baby's bottom and I no longer have any problems whatsoever. You can find natural products very cheaply nowadays so don't be put off by thinking they might be expensive.

Thank for your input MartaTaurus and Newatthis. Further research into bamboo fabrics revealed that processing and manufacturing are not necessarily environmentally friendly. A surprising number of cotton bras were not 100% cotton but I managed to find one that’s 100% cotton and front fastening.

I read that fabric described as bamboo isn’t always bamboo. It said hemp and linen and organic cotton is the most environmentally friendly but linen makes me itch. Having lost weight recently none of my bras fit ( always the first place I lose weight from) and need to buy some new bras but can’t wear anything with lace or anything that digs into my skin.

It doesn’t surprise me MayBee70. I did a lot of digging before finding what I need. This latest allergy made me very ill and I’m taking no chances!

I was only reading up on it because of a podcast about recycling fabric which shocked me. I can’t bear lots of things touching my skin. Hate labels. Can’t wear wool. Bought some dryer balls made of wool without realising that they would turn all of my non wool clothes into woolly ones! Can’t put any clothes on if I’ve applied any sort of cream .I even itch if I think about itching.

100% cotton is about the only fabric that doesn’t seem to hurt me. I’m with you on labels, horrid things, and those stupid plastic tags that seem to be on everything these days. I have 4 cotton sleeveless shift dresses that I’m wearing on rotation in this hot weather. No waistband to dig in and they just pull on and off over my head. I struggle with shoes but I am able to wear them long enough to go for my daily walk now. I was stuck in the house for about a month.

I see that Sloggi make cotton bras. I’ve got a couple of their non cotton ones which are now too big for me but I need a bit of padding!
