Hi.i went to see a physio earlier expecting exercises for my back and hip problem but it was a chat with a physio and i mentioned i had a doctors appointment on friday to talk about my hip xray and he said i can tell you the results now, okay i said not expecting to be told beginning of arthritis in my left hip and servere in my right.I am 65 at christmas. The pain has been off the scale for months i just thought i had a trapped nerve so i am in shock. He told me i can go on the list for a new hip or try an exercise club, which i will do first.I really feel sick with shock. He tell me the pills i am on are for nerve damage to so good just over the counter drugs or naproxen, which i have had before but does not suit me,he said the physio will not help with pain and if pain we my main focus best to go on the list for a hip. Please help me i am so lost, also back of my mind lost my dad after an operation he never woke up from what was told was a daily operation and they had not lost anyone in seven years so tonight it is all going through my head how can this happen to me and what should i do.many thanks.

Dawn62 sorry to say hes right physio won't help with pain if your severe hip is bone on bone then get on the list as soon as you can. Leaving it longer will mean your muscles may deteriorate further and make recovery longer. I've had both done and the relief from the pain was enormous. Bite the bullet and do speak to your consultant about the surgery he will put your mind at rest.
