Bathsheba ''Diabetes medications. Turmeric can strengthen the effects of medications used to control type 2 diabetes, which in turn can increase the risk of hypoglycemia (low blood sugar)."
I don't get this warning at all. Surely, if taking turmeric makes diabetese medication more effective, be it Metformin or Insulin - then the answer is not to stop the turmeric- but reduce the diabetes medication. And that is a great thing.
So if starting to use turmeric as a diabetic, you should just keep an eye on the effect on blood-sugar, and then, with your GP or specialist, adjust medication. Not the other way round.
And that is the key here- if you take supplements, you must talk to your GP- as s/he needs to know- and also warn you about any possible interaction/s with your medication- and possible side-effects.
Take St John's Wort- found in medical studies to be as helpful as anti-depressants in many forms of depression. Your GP needs to know if you are taking it- and s/he will ensure that you know about avoiding strong sunlight and wear sunglasses, etc.
